There are plenty of consistent rumors about a digital R camera and a digital S camera or something like one. Add up what has been said by Leica over the past year by Kaufmann, including Leica Cinema, the new Pradovit Digital Projection, etc... There is more coming, isn't it obvious yet? I'm actually surprised they gave out anything before the doors opened. Remember, Kaufmann has only owned the company for a short while and I'd have to say by that alone it's all good so far. Rumours have been flying around about the 0.95/50 for quite som time and someone spotted news of the 1.4/24 when we were there. So what does it take to surprise me? I will be surprised if nothing should happen in the R line. We were advised not to sell our R lenses, und it is not over until the fat lady sings and she hasn`t even started warming up yet. That's pretty funny, then why is every Leica dealer dumping R lenses as demos? they're probably in fear of us driving the price even lower. LOL The new camera is said to be a high MP studio camera which handles like a DSLR, no working camera yet, no working lens yet. My guess is it's a quasi medium format camera using the old Kodak 39MP sensor. Possibly dumb question ... wouldn't it be possible if they'd come up with something that doesn't get added to the lens like an adapter but rather something that get's inserted into the mount opening (or if stuck to lens, intrudes into camera body) and hence doesn't increase flange distance? Maybe they go even further and add some form of magnifying device to allow full usage of bigger sensor for 35mm lenses? Okay, I admit, that sounds like Star Trek ..... I can't ever remember in the 30 plus years I have been using Leicas that I haven't asked for or wanted more from them - it's hard not to want more of the best. (Please, don't say the C word or N word.) Remember Kaufmann said last year that a solution is in the works (or something to that effect) for keeping the usability of current R lenses. He also stated that he is a member of this forum and watches it regularly. I wonder if the big shots at other companies are so interested. We will be pleasantly surprised (and no, I'm not always upbeat about Leica) it has been a very long time, but the quality won't allow me to break away !!!! But this feels different this time....... It doesn't have to be that long ago. Mint Noctiluxes could be easily had at $1800-1900 on eBay just 3 months before the M8's official release. 75 lux was going for $1500 and under at that time if I'm remembering correctly. leicar888 Posted September 15, 2008 Share #37 Posted September 15, 2008 I used my Leica RT-s projector at the camera club I belonged to for three years, and everybody was stunned by its vast improvement over the 40-year-old cheap Kodak projector they had used until I joined. I wonder if this upcoming digital projector will produce exactly the same quality the RT-s produced from slide projections. The M8.2, as opposed to the M8, now appears to be a true 16 bit, and to be more robust based on Leica's specs. Anyway... the M8.2 looks a lot more attractive to me than the M8 (even cosmetically...). Where you derive this conclusion from ? "True" 16 bit, i.e. a new firmware which maps CCD output into a 16 bit DNG file, would require more CPU power, different circuitry, more onchip memory...
