wilfredo Posted September 13, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now that the M8 is off the ground, why hasn't Leica produced a DSLR for existing R Leica glass. I am sure there are probably technical challenges, or Leica simply doesn't have the resources, but in an ideal world, I would love a Leica DSLR the size of an Olympus OM1 SLR that can produce digital negatives equal to or better than the M8. Any thoughts on this? Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography

andybarton Posted September 13, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 13, 2008 my thoughts? Wilfredo's been asleep for the last six months Just look in digital and customer sections, my friend ( clue, it may or may not be called an R10... )
wilfredo Posted September 13, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted September 13, 2008 After posting this I realized there was a thread on a possible R10. Oh well... I haven't been following the buzz. If true, I hope it is not bulky. Wilfredo ww.BenitezRivera.com
sdai Posted September 13, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 13, 2008 If true, I hope it is not bulky. It won't be because there will no R10 at all.
lct Posted September 13, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 13, 2008 ...I would love a Leica DSLR the size of an Olympus OM1 SLR that can produce digital negatives equal to or better than the M8... Or the size of a Leica R4. You're not alone of course but it seems that Leica's decided to lauch an MF body instead which would have a different mount and could possibly use R lenses in crop mode for whatever reason. Don't ask me why as it sounds so stupid to me that i prefer keeping my tongue in cheek. Now there's nothing official for now so all hope is not lost perhaps... mooky Posted September 14, 2008 Share #6 Posted September 14, 2008 It won't be because there will no R10 at all. Well a little birdy says that there will be a R10 maybe not at 'kina but soon.......
adan Posted September 14, 2008 Share #7 Posted September 14, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wilfredo - no one outside Leica really has a clue at the moment what Leica is planning. But they are planning something. (The Leica reps probably found out last week at seminars on the new products and planned products). Leica will reveal, if not all, then all they are willing to reveal at this time either Monday 9/15 or Monday 9/22 (I've seen both dates mentioned). There are bits of evidence all over the place right now for practically anything - the other threads cover a lot of bases. The "R10" as defined 6 months ago - still based on the "35mm SLR" paradigm with AF added (or not) - seems to be fading a bit in the speculation, but it is still just that. Speculation - based on indirect hints (like some European dealers dumping all their new R glass as "demos", or the mention of an "S2" (the Leica S1 having been their first in-house digital a decade ago, in a microscopic market) and individuals' personal dreams (AF/not AF, traditional "35mm" form/move to quasi-medium-format (or true MF), built out by Sinar-Jenoptik/built in by Leica/half-and-half). A huge amount of NOISE, due to the fact that the leaks have all be on the M8/lenses with absolutely zip about the R (or a replacement). We'll have to wait a few days for Leica to spread some LIGHT. pascal_meheut Posted September 14, 2008 Share #8 Posted September 14, 2008 Wilfredo - no one outside Leica really has a clue at the moment what Leica is planning. Or if people outside Leica know, they are not talking. At least not publicly

Have a look at Leica Camera Berlin New glass as "demo": MEISTER CAMERA Berlin: Leica R Objektive And 2nd hand "Special offers": MEISTER CAMERA Berlin: Sonderangebote They also have a Hamburg department offering ca. 10-25% discounts: MEISTER CAMERA Hamburg: Sonderangebote : Sonderangebote[catUid]=9&cHash=a50c85d525

Iron Flatline Posted September 14, 2008 Share #13 Posted September 14, 2008 Yeah, I have to agree - these prices may ary from MSRP, but they are hardly a bargain. They can barely be considered much of a discount.
roguewave Posted September 14, 2008 Share #14 Posted September 14, 2008 Wilfredo, many people are using the Full Frame Canon D5, which I know can be purchased for around $1,000 US (lightly used - overstocked - "not a photographer") in NYC. Gunnar has posted several awesome images using this body with Leica R glass.

I don't there is anything odd here. I will ask when I go in again later this coming week. Are there other dealers doing the same thing? Leica Camera Berlin/Meister Camera Berlin moves a *lot* of equipment, compared to most dealers. If I am not mistaken, the manager, who I know, mentioned that they are the highest selling dealer, I don't recall if in Germany or the world.
smokysun Posted September 14, 2008 Share #16 Posted September 14, 2008 i started buying r lenses (seven of them) 2 or so years ago and they were much more plentiful and cheaper than now. like me many canon (and olympus) users must have bought them up, especially with the confirmation adaptors available on ebay. with or without the r10 they'll stay in high demand, is my guess. A bit more info: the demos that they are selling are actually demos. They bought a whole slew of them from the Leica Academy, which they do from time to time, and they get great prices, check them over, and sell them on. They have 1 year warranty and were all checked over by Leica. Btw, the 180/2 is gone
sdai Posted September 15, 2008 Share #18 Posted September 15, 2008 A "demo" 180 cron for $4500 something has been listed on eBay for almost 4-5 months, you can grab it now.
carstenw Posted September 15, 2008 Share #19 Posted September 15, 2008 A "demo" 180 cron for $4500 something has been listed on eBay for almost 4-5 months, you can grab it now. Mine is 2500EUR and I am not sure it has ever been used. It has probably been picked up and looked at, but the bottom of the tripod mount is flawless, and on big teles that is usually the first area to lose its newness. The demos at Meister have all been gone over by Leica and have a 1-year warranty. Most or all have only been very lightly used, and the prices are amazing. The 180/2 I picked up is for all intents and purposes new. The 80 Lux that is still standing there is the same, for 975EUR. Anyone looking to pick up cheap R glass should look at the list.
