Difficult choice, don't you think so?

Another shot from my series of Monica in Copenhagen two weeks ago.

I like both ... almost equally. It's not easy. There is both technical things as well as the expression. I find myself often tending to choose first the technically satisfying, then secondly the expression (gotta justify all this equipment somehow)

thorsten... i would rather go with the 2. ya, the expression and the balance of frame is better. but it is not perfect... in the midle there is some undfined room. now, empty can be a difinition many times but here it is not empty - it is simply not balanced enough...

Definitely the first - the expression sells it and the whole picture balances perfectly (though maybe I'd still tale just a couple of the cobblestones off the bottom of the picture !!) ;)

I'll second all of that....

extreme mini's must be back in vogue in Denmark......no complaints there.

You can see her figure better in number 2 but her walk looks odd while the walk in number one looks better but you can not see her figure. Same thing with her expression. Maybe a little digital manipulation would be in order here? Either that or go back and reshoot.

Thorsten:

Easy. The second image. For me, the man in the frame is distracting as is the manhole on the ground...I also like HER better in the second image--and the composition is far more interesting for my eye with her over to the left...

There is no question regarding her beauty--just get rid of the distractions and there you go.

My two cents...

Great work.

Take care,

brad.

Thorsten,

It's difficult to choose between those two excellent images.

One of the elements I like in the first photo, except of course that great smile of the beautiful subject,

are the picturesque cobble stones in the foreground.

The person in the background or the manhole in the foreground don't disturb me at all.

I like the second one because the composition seems to be "lighter", perhaps because there are fewer

elements to distract the attention from the subject.

Also her silhouette in the second one is more separated from the background.

These elements make #2 a slightly stronger and more interesting image.

No brainer. The second of the two is the better shot IMHO

For one thing, there's a better expression on her part (not as forced and more of a feeling of being 'found' by the photographer which I personally like).

For another, it's less busy (the unnecessary guy behind her is gone plus she stands out without all that distractive background architecture and branches her hair seems to become tangled up in as in the first). Plus, the lighting behind her is more appealing creating a sort of airiness with her hair that the first one doesn't possess.

Finally the composition of the second is simply better for me. It's not symmetrical which I felt weakened the first shot vs her being off to the side (more of a statement about her vs her surroundings).

definitely the second for me. In the first, her pose looks awkward and shapeless. In the second, she looks balanced and her shape is far better. The guy is distracting, and in the second, she has nice eye contact with the camera.
