Hello @Fjäll

Nice kit.

Nice new vulcanite replacement without red dot !

I can not figure out if it is with Rapidwinder (TA ? or Leicavit-M) in black chrome,

The soft release lead me to TA ...

Late reply.

Thank you! Leicavit black chrome and an eBay black chrome soft release.

Mine has zinc top and bottom, ser no 155****

Probably not zinc bottom plate: "Leica abandoned the zinc baseplate idea. It was too difficult to make strong enough and after use it started to crack".

Maybe not zinc but certainly not brass the edges of the black are rubbed off and it is definitely steel coloured not brass like on my MP and M9s. Maybe the bottom plate is pressed steel?

Remember that when brass is Black Chrome plated it is over a coating of nickel plate, that is what you see.

Thanks I hadn't thought of that. I just weighed them both (bottom plates) and they weigh the same so I guess it is brass. Makes me wonder if the top plate is also brass since I only see where the black is rubbed off around the strap lugs and a bit on the top edges. 🤔

If the viewfinder window is recessed it is brass, if flush it is zinc.

I love my M4-P. It is the anniversary model with the unique serial number, mine begins with ' I ' as in Leica. The top plate is whatever Leica used in this model run.

Like this one?

It is smooth in use ?

already seen here

Happy M4-P owners, I have a question.

Do your M4-P's top made of brass or zinc alloy ?

According to my serial number #1619… another 70 Jahre anniversary model, zinc apparently.

I’ve not taken it out yet, just testing it.

Later M4-Ps with the flush viewfinder are zinc but I have never heard of any bubbling (for that matter I have never seen a M6 bubble other than pictures on this forum).
