You are right that it‘s hard to imagine the times when these items were made - be it originally by Zeiss for wartime purposes or by anybody else after the war.

Though I wonder who were the people who might have bought these lenses after the war. In East Germany there was probably less money than in the western zones. Most of Russian soldiers were even poorer than the Germans who were defeated by the Soviet army. Members of the western allies had better resources in the west.

So maybe the items rested anywhere unsold for almost half a century and only came to the „market“ very recently.

I think I’ve recently added this to my collection. I’m interested in these post war conversions - so far I have a 5cm f2 and a much more recent Skyllaney 5cm f1.5 conversion. The only two ‘original’ Zeiss that I own in LTM are a 5cm f1.5 & 3.5cm Biogon - bought from a reputable dealer here in the UK

I suppose from perusing this thread that if i wanted to use the 50mm F2 Sonnar from my contax on a leica or digital body, it would make more sense to try to find one of the Amedeo adapters rather than search for a "real" Sonnar in LTM or M mount, no?

Yes - I purchased one from Camera Quest for my Sonnar 1.5 & 2.0 and both work very well on my Leicas.

Those being quite hard to find, is there a consensus on whether the Kipon "clone" is as good?   I know the other, cheaper knockoffs aren't.

I've only tried the Amadeo. Camera Quest usually has them.

Yes. I have had a big clear out of cameras and lenses over the past month to Peter Loy Ltd.

The one I have kept is the genuine wartime 50mm Sonnar shown earlier in posts #38 and #41.

I bought my two original Zeiss LTM lenses from Peter Loy along with the two Zeiss conversions. The Skyllaney was from that well known auction site

Another interesting 5cm f1.5 Sonnar conversion added to my collection. I’ve not got it yet but has anyone seen a conversion that has used the focussing mechanism of an Elmar / Industar variant?
