lct Posted August 14, 2008 Share #82 Posted August 14, 2008 How come in post 75 the R5 has its red dot on the opposite side when compared to post 79? As far as i recall the Leitz dot was on the left side (R3, R4, R4s, early R5) and the Leica one moved to the right (R5, R6, R6.2, RE, R7) before returning to the left (R8, R9). garyp Posted August 14, 2008 Share #83 Posted August 14, 2008 Normally, the German R5 bodies have red dot under advance lever, and thePortugese made bodies have red dot under rewind knob

bull40 Posted August 22, 2008 Share #90 Posted August 22, 2008 Hello Xanax, When Leica moved production from Wetzlar (and/or Portugal) to Solms, there were a few detail changes made. Besides switching location of the red dot and model number, the shutter speed dial was changed from a printed-on smooth disc to one that had raised characters molded in. Also, you will note that the red dot shows the change of corporate identity from Leitz to Leica. It seems to me there is another detail difference or two that I can't recall off hand, but I'll take a look at my R-E and R4s MOD. P and report back later. Anybody know if that is when they started the molded thumb grip on the film door? Moist regards, John
fernando_b Posted August 22, 2008 Share #91 Posted August 22, 2008 >> Anybody know if that is when they started the molded thumb grip on the film door? John, I have one R4 and R4s made in Portugal, they don't have the thumb grip. I also have one R-E and one R6 both made in Germany, they do have it. It is not a coincidence. Fernando. querstrommotor Posted August 22, 2008 Share #92 Posted August 22, 2008 If someone has changed the back of the R body against a newer on, than you will find the grip also on older R4 cams. As it is a well known problem to have broken light seals, a lot of people changed the whole back of the cam - so you will find strange things on the market;-)) Ekki
garyp Posted August 22, 2008 Share #93 Posted August 22, 2008 Not certain, but I believe the t'grip started with the R5; I always preferred the non t'grip back, so I was one of the ones to change them out.
