Thanks! If you like the way this lens renders, then take a print and trim off 12.5% from each edge and you'll have the M8 field. We'll all have to wait to see what the sensor does to the "look" and contrast of our favorites. Any version would do, but I'd use both my v1 and the ASPH which I have, till I could see which is best suited to how the M8 sensor records images with each. Choice # 2 would be the 40mm Summicron. Each of the above would approximate the 50 mm FOV, which is what I use for most of my images on film. For wide angle work my choice would be the 24mm ASPH. For semi-zoom and zoom lenses it would be the Tri-Elmar and the 28-90 that's mounted on my D2. Sure wish it was detachable. More than you asked but all of the above are wonderful lenses by any objective measure, including the most subjective and important of all. The eyes. Perhaps the rumoured new 28/2.8 Elmarit, with the flexibility of being able to change ISO sensitivity so easily I may be willing to give up a stop to save some money on the lens. You do know that this is not a mountable lens? The D2 sensor is housed in the lens structure....so it would require significant modifications, and would probably still not work. as it's quite a specialised lense for the D2/LC1 But I do agree, that if it had been possible, I'd switch from my D2 to the M8 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

From my experience with the R-D1, i don't think so. It will become a short tele (66.5 mm FoV) on the M8, not a standard lens any more IMHO. If not, what would your favorite lens be? A 50mm FoV lens. Preferably not the most contrasty ones due to the relatively low dynamic range of digital cameras. So i could choose the same lens as Jerry's i.e. a pre-asph Summicron 35mm or my favourite Summicron-C 40mm. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

The forthcoming 28 f2.8 ASPH on the M8 might be a very small, handy package, but the extra stop of the 28 f2.0 would seem preferable to me unless the noise level of the M8 is awfully good. humanized_form Posted August 31, 2006 Share #19 Posted August 31, 2006 it would have to be my 35mm summilux asph, it becomes a 46mm "tweener" lens which might work out great for most stuff. i'm also planning to use some old school lower contrast lenses(rigid summicron, canon rf lenses, etc) per the Sean Reid Theory.
