New: Leica SL3 Reporter A robust design variant of the mirrorless Leica full-frame system camera perfectly suited to the most exacting photographic requirements Wetzlar, 6th of November 2025 – Leica Camera AG is pleased to announce the launch of the Leica SL3 Reporter, a new addition to the company’s Reporter design series. This particularly robust version of the Leica SL3 represents the latest in a long line of specially developed Leica cameras. The Leica SL3 Reporter is equipped with features that have been specifically designed for the harsh conditions of reportage and press photography, which enables maximum precision even under the most adverse shooting conditions. The result combines maximum functionality and reliability with a unique camera design that is both understated and striking. The Leica SL3 Reporter features a particularly scratch-resistant dark green finish and an aramid fabric cover, which provide additional protection for the robust camera body against abrasion and environmental influences. Furthermore, the special trim, with its unique texture, also offers significantly improved grip, thus ensuring enhanced stability when taking photographs and filming. Over time, the trim develops a unique patina that reflects the traces of its photographic journey and the character of a true reportage camera. summicron75 Posted yesterday at 02:55 PM Share #4 Posted yesterday at 02:55 PM Mine just arrived and first impressions are stellar. It feels just the right kind of chunky. A beautiful piece of kit and very happy I waited for this edition. Have the SL APO 35, 24-90 and 90-280 and feel more than covered. Biggest shock for me was how tiny the 35mm feels. At first I thought they’d sent me the smaller, cheaper summicron by mistake. I’m thrilled. Finding joy wherever it can be found these days…
beewee Posted yesterday at 03:05 PM Share #5 Posted yesterday at 03:05 PM It’s a bit peculiar to see a reporter version show up 18 months after the initial release of the SL3. It makes me wonder whether: The SL3 is selling very poorly The SL2-S Safari edition sold better than expected An SL4 is coming in the next 18 months The SL line will get superseded by the new medium format S (or whatever it’ll be named) and I am guessing will support L-mount via an adapter Personally, I think it’s likely a combination of 1 and 4, but as an SL shooter, I’m hoping it’s 3, or 4 if Leica can keep the size and weight down on the new medium format system.

But slower if selling steadily. I doubt before 2027 at the earliest 4. This is in reverse. The S wasn't a success which is why the SL came along. In any case, Leica need a full frame offering for mirrorless even if they have another attempt at medium format. Photon42 Posted 22 hours ago Share #8 Posted 22 hours ago They should have made the SL3S the reporter edition. That thing has content credentials.
Paulus Posted 20 hours ago Share #9 Posted 20 hours ago Nice that in the advertisement is stated that this camera makes pictures with the “ real Leica look” I was under the impression that we established years ago that a real Leica look doesn’t exist? Also, whenever a new camera is released there are always people who want something different: a black dot or no dot; internal storage with ain't going to happen without changing the camera architecture; content credentials etc, etc. Just proves you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time (apologies to Abe Lincoln for the slight mis-quote). Stuart Richardson Posted 14 hours ago Share #11 Posted 14 hours ago (edited) The Leica look is whatever the marketing team thinks will best sell a camera or lens or software app at any given time. It is as meaningful as painting a 7500 dollar camera with 500 dollars of green paint and pretending it is for reporters. That’s a lot of editorial pictures these days… Anyway, it looks nice to me, but marketing teams are gonna market…they are never selling products, always aspirations. SL3 March 2024 and Reporter November 2025. (21 months) SL2-S December 2020 and Reporter October 2022. (23 months) I don’t see how any conclusions can be drawn.

As much as I wish Leica success with the new medium format it will be a struggle mainly on price against the Hasselblad X2DII.
marcus01432 Posted 11 hours ago Share #14 Posted 11 hours ago Does the roughed build include water and dust resistance ratings?
PhotoCruiser Posted 7 hours ago Share #15 Posted 7 hours ago No, it's not a roughed build other than other colour and the aramid fabric. Water and dust resistance will be the same as the normal SL3, if that is needed then the Q2/Q3 is the ticket. Chris

If price is your main criteria, surely Canon/Lumix/Sony will have a year-end special to entice you. Otherwise these are two very different cameras, the main thing they have in common is a similar price.

It just means an SL3 is now available in green, hopefully with a leatherette holding up to proper reporter usage.

How is the kevlar edge sealed ? I recall fraying at the edges was an issue with prior reporter special editions. It is telling that Leica uses the general term Aramid. Kevlar is a subclass of Aramid fibre. It suggests that they used a different type of (Kevlar-like) Aramid fibre.
