No, no, no, Leica isn't a luxury brand at all.... 😏🙄🤑😂

It's been going on for a hundred years, isn't it a little late to act surprised?

Will this be a collector edition or user?  The closest in recent years the M60 became a user, anyone collecting it has not seen an increase in value.  The 50mm lens would be a great edition to add to the reissues, I don't know how different it is from the 35mm Elmar that can be purchased easily and reasonably.

It is a fully functional camera so of course you can use it. Just don’t expect the value to double in a year like the unused ones.

Damn… after observing thoroughly… i realised i couldnt attach my strap lug… deal breaker..

having no shutter release thread is already taken a hit for me 😖

Those are the deal breakers for what is probably a $20K plus set? 🤣 First world problems....

It's beautiful, but nobody 'needs' a white gloves camera like this, unless you have a title in your name and a dry closet in the villa. I'll bet the camera you already have takes photographs that are no different from this one....

Surprised? Not in the least. My daughter's name is Leica, and I've been shooting M's since about 1993. It's not my first time to this rodeo. Sarcasm is often a reaction when somebody repeats a behavior until it becomes.... a joke.

yep, until then ( a title in my name, a real title, and a dry closet in the villa) im happy with what i got right now.. it’s just a pleasure to see special and limited edition around… leica is leaving a footprint for something to look back in the future, which is a nice legacy 😀

Will it double?  A few years back the M60 could be had very cheap, 40% of new, and they sat on shelves, unwanted, unloved.   Are the days of (special editions) gaining value over?  The lenses appear to be garnishing all the attention, as seen from all the comments here and the release of the rare 50 Noctilux reissue in chrome.

I get it, anniversary and all. But I think many of us wish we could use the 'pedestrian' Leica cameras we just bought but have had to go off for service for a month or six (my M10-R black paint has now had two extended vacations, one right out of the box). Redoing their customer service and quality control would be a legacy for all users, not just a rarefied few.

We may be talking about different things. I was referring to the set OP posted about. Not sure about the 100 per country cameras. They will increase in value if not used but who knows by how much. If you like it use it and enjoy it. Something a bit different and a nice talking point when you meet other M users.

Yeah i feel that.. while they r celebrating, some other are mourning over a long turn over, even right off the box.. they really need to reshape their service, including QC

even the latest iteration of M11 series, have not been consistent with being flawless

but you know when they released M11D last year? I wished it was in brass.. i have been patiently waiting to my disappointment.. and it comes in black paint, something i never imagine before

I doubt if they will ever increase in price, digital being digital, may be if the seller is trying to jack up the price.. and there are buyers who crazy enough to pay double the release price, for a digital..

a pill hard to swallow

To a mere mortal, another strange Leica marketing decision, why would a company take a celebratory handle like 100 years, and restrict the reachability to a select few by using limited 100 sets/units?

The CMO must be taking a page from Porsche with halo cars like the GT3, RS editions etc that are both priced and production limited, to amp up the desirability of common 911’s? So we’re expected to buy no frills M11-D’s for the privilege of getting close to the M11-D set? Or the D-Lux or SOFORT is close enough when they have a 100 badge?

It's all more than a bit ridiculous but Leica knows it's base, one that will salivate and be quick to purchase these offerings. An investment? It's still a digital camera, so no long term payoff I would expect, probably the reverse as the camera's capabilities get eclipsed by future M's......and then there's dwindling support and service. Will any digital Leica's have the useful life of an M2 or M3 and thus hold or increase value over decades? I doubt it.

I find it all a bit silly to be honest but there again if this helps pad Leica's bottom line with funds from other well padded pockets then knock yourself out Leica, there's several born every minute.

Off topic, but they did the opposite for the "70 Year" M4-P. They made so many of them that it isn't worth more than a regular M4-P.

I'm not into special editions or rare versions, but for those who are, I'm sure this will tickle their fancy.

I can't quite fathom the need to replicate the lug-less design of the Leica 1 in the M11D, a design decision taken to far IMO. Then again it is unlikely many of these will ever see use.

Also surprised they didn't include the APO in a fancy housing, the pinnacle of 100 years of Leica lens design. No, you get a Summilux for some strange reason.

None the less, I'm sure it'll appeal to more than the 101 examples available.

Whenever Leica release a new limited edition, the initial talk is always about investment.  I see it differently.  The M11-D is a lovely camera to use, despite its reliance on a phone App.  This new version, coupled with either of the lenses in the set, will be great to use.  I suppose the whole "glossy box set" thing suggests it's for collectors and will just sit in a display case, but I would use it.

The lug-less body is a design thing, same thing happened with the original screen less M60, but under the camera and lens tray is a leather case with strap connectors.  Not sure about the orange colour but no doubt Arte di Mano will come up with some other leather options.

Im used with strap, when i had my m60, i struggled without straps, i dont like the protector back then hence i ordered artedimano for m60… but still… stitching a strap to a protector and attaching a strap to lugs.. really different feel

but anyhow.. it’s no more than a discussion for fun 😆

Well, for the facts on this look at the auction results of past sales of limited digital sets. The two lenses might 'carry' this set.

I have no interest in it, both from an affordability and desirability aspect FWIW.

Interested but I don't need another shelf queen.  The lenses are a big draw, if they produce the Anastigmat reissue as a stand alone purchase the set value would be more questionable.

No frameline selector? Looking forward to seeing how the lens renders and if they will mass produce it.

Seeing that the camera has no frameline selector and both lenses it comes with are 50mm, I'm guessing there's only one set of framelines (for 50mm) in the viewfinder.

I'm surprised the 'Ernst Leitz' engraved mound under the on/off switch wasn't mentioned; a nice nod to the housing under the shutter-speed dial of the Leica 1.

Really nice little edition with some very sweet detailing. Shame about the lugless design, though, as I will have to give it a miss-in-baulk...

Seeing #126 was a bit of a treat in its own right!

Philip.
