Advertisement Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Hi robb, Take a look here M11 shows discontinued today. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robb Posted April 4 Author Share #2 Posted April 4 Is this similar to timing on m10 run out? I hope they have some great new M announcements before too long. Robb
costa43 Posted April 4 Share #3 Posted April 4 It’s seeming more and more likely that we will get the EVF M very soon. I thought we might see an M12 this year but it now does not seem likely. I’d hazard a guess at early 2027.
bcaslis Posted April 4 Share #4 Posted April 4 (edited) The M11 silver was marked as discontinued months ago. Now the black is also. Note Leica Miami showed the black M11 as discontinued weeks ago. I checked Leica USA, black M11 is in stock, silver M11 back ordered and out of stock. Not marked as discontinued. Edited April 4 by bcaslis

Herr Barnack Posted April 4 Share #6 Posted April 4 I always thought that when an item on the B&H website was marked as "discontinued" it meant that B&H is no longer going to stock that item - not that the manufacturer had discontinued it.

I would always go to B&H first for such announcements. Well I would mostly agree but B&H has been lowering the price on M11 black the past couple of weeks. I bought one last week. I suspect they were waiting to sell their stock before showing discontinued.
lct Posted April 4 Share #8 Posted April 4 M11-P, M11-D and M11 Mono are still available worldwide AFAIK.

More likely the camera has been so troubled that they pulled the hoped-for M12 a bit back.
DadDadDaddyo Posted April 5 Share #10 Posted April 5 Given the state of things as they are, and frankly, even once things settle down again (someday may we live so long), I can't see anything but a bright and busy future for the M11s and M11Ms out there. 1
bcaslis Posted April 5 Share #11 Posted April 5 The M11 issues seem to be mostly firmware (they were for me). How are the M11-P, M11-D, and M11M any different?
lct Posted April 5 Share #12 Posted April 5 Leica don't make bodies with 64GB SSD any more i guess. M11-P, M11-D and M11M have a 256GB SSD.
bcaslis Posted April 5 Share #13 Posted April 5 No the M11 glossy black paint is an M11 (64GB). It is still available.

I don’t think the M12 will come yet. The P has been out for just over a year and the EVF version is likely soon. Wetzlar are unlikely to keep making the base model but it’s pretty standard stuff with their timing looking at the past. The difference between the base M11 and the P, Mono and D is the internal hard drive. Maybe this contributed to the freezing and failures. Another reason for discontinuing might be to prepare for more special editions in this ‘special edition’ year.

There were reports of freezing across all the lineup. I know of at least two monochrom owners that had issues. On the other hand my silver M11 has been glitch free thank goodness! Then again, the M10-R was higher resolution and coordinating with megapixels of the existing M10M sensor , so perhaps seen as an interim upgrade and provided a reason for discontinuing the M10? Does a discontinued M11 indicate an upgrade of sorts to the rangefinder model, or just to make room for the EVF version?

I would imagine that very few people would be buying the base M11 at retail now. The P and the glossy black are more appealing to the majority of users, especially as there is barely any cost difference between all the models. They may well be using up some of the parts for the new EVF M as well.
Guest Posted April 5 Share #20 Posted April 5 (edited) I don't see the EOL for the M11 as being directly related to the introduction of new models. The M11 and M11-P are almost identical in core features and the price is also similar so I doubt many people would be buying the M11 now. If that's the case it would make sense for Leica to economise on production costs by eliminating the M11. Edit: Posted at the same time as @costa43 above.
