It's interesting seeing the wear marks, have you worked out if it's your strap / clothing / camera bag wearing those long edges down like that or is it just really thin paint which doesn't last long on the edges? Especially on the frame selector lever which I'm guessing you don't really handle much when using the camera (?) but it must be getting scuffed by something as you carry it. Advertisement Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Hi Stevejack, Take a look here Scratching Question for M11 Glossy Black Paint Owners. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
charlesphoto99 Posted March 25 Share #22 Posted March 25 Here is my M10-R black paint, which was purchased new when it was released. As you can see, it's brassing up nicely. It does have a hairpin scratch on the front I don't appreciate (as it will never brass), but such is life. And I wish the screen surround was also made of brass. IMO black paint models should either be bought to be used and 'personalized' with a lifetime of handling, or added to a collection under vitrine. There's little in between to be had. I do not believe in natural black paint wear on digital Leicas that is to my liking, would last way too long... Yep I get what you're saying, I'm all for customising it how you like it. The black + brass is beautiful. One of my other hobbies is painting and weathering scale models and I spend a lot of time trying to create realistic aging effects including paint chipping and wear from repeated use. I've never turned my hand to a Leica but it would be a fun experiment one day.

What about those 3 crowns in the middle? Was this a property of the Swedish Armee? And what about the golden colored lettering on the wheels? Was this done by Wetzlar? Earger to get some more about this „Onlyfans“ cam 🙂

I think to make it look like natural wear/weathering there has to be some elements in it that are far more random than a standard sandpaper job hitting all the high edges, and that is the difficult part. Additionally where the brass does show through it won't all be highly polished but some will be tarnished. So I agree, not unlike weathering a tank with a combination of random wear and high use areas, only unlike a model tank it's not possible to go a step back if it ends up looking a bugger.

JNK100 Posted March 26 Share #27 Posted March 26 Advertisement (gone after registration) If protecting th finish is important, wrap the camera in black insulation-tape and /or use a half-case would be my advice.

And after this, some people think that Peak Design's Anchor links don't scratch the camera?😜
jaapv Posted March 26 Share #30 Posted March 26 Most interestingly, maybe the anti-“plastic lenses” platoon will note how well the composite handgrip has held up compared to the metal? The white edge is just the light. I see the camera needs a brush down one day. ☹️

ronaldc Posted April 11 Share #37 Posted April 11 this looks unreal, did you paint the lettering on the top plate ? I got one two days ago and there is a faint hairline scratch on the bottom (I have been obsessively careful with it) and I put on the Visoflex 2 today and it left a faint scratch just carefully putting it on and off. I have had an M11 for two years and was not this careful with it and it and it looks brand new. Is this to be expected? I know it's supposed to wear over time but this seems unacceptably soft. Any experiences to share? @bcaslis there’s a thread over on Fred Miranda’s where he talked about removing scratches from his M10-R BP. https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1841177/

But in this case it left a scratch in the paint just from putting it on as carefully as I could just once. It was tough to get a picture of it but I finally managed. Welcome, dear visitor!
