Hi, Cathy, and welcome to the Forum.

I've tried, twice, to complete your questionnaire but, unfortunately, couldn't because - in essence - none of the options available as answers were applicable in my case. Nor do I think I will be alone in this difficulty.

If I might offer a bit of an explanation?

I can only speak for myself (of course) and I would only be considering the Leica M series of cameras but, for what it is worth, by far the greatest attraction for choosing a Leica M is 'Haptics' and I suspect that this will be pretty much a constant with almost all M users saying much the same thing. Secondly will be the way Leica lenses 'Render'; i.e. 'Draw' their subject. Again; I hardly doubt that I'm alone here. Lastly I consider the camera/lens unit to be nothing more than a tool which is used to capture an image and for me it is the best tool for this particular job.

It might be worth your time to have a look through some of the sub-fora; in particular that of the various threads regarding Leica M Lenses as these threads will give you an idea of what Leica users really consider to be important and why they have chosen to use these cameras with these lenses;

https://www.l-camera-forum.com/forum/130-leica-m-lenses/

Equally I'm sure there will be some people in the world who choose to use Leica for some 'Lifestyle-Choice' or 'Personal-Image' ideas but in my experience very few - if, indeed, any - Forum members will fit into that category.

Wishing you all the best for your Final Year Project!

Philip.

I absolutely agree - I tried to answer the questionnaire but gave up.  I have Leica for simplicity (just the essentials), heft, haptics, the form function, particularly the gorgeous tiny (comparatively) lenses, and the rangefinder experience.

Likewise, I got a few questions in and felt the questions weren't about cameras or lenses but branding and lifestyle. And I think there are already some pre-formed opinions hidden within the questions which makes me 'wanna' distrust them and that I'm 'gonna' quit the questionnaire, so I did.

Please would you tell us a bit more about your course? Which design school and which course? Does it have a photography element?

Unfortunately - for the student - I think you are correct.

The aim of the questionnaire seems to be centred on how Leica is perceived in 'The World of Fashion'. As such I suspect that Cathy has come to the wrong place and is placing her questions before the wrong group of people.

Most of the questions just don’t make any sense to me!

I also think that Cathy has already made her mind up about what she thinks about Leica as a brand and is simply looking to validate those opinions.

Cathy, most of us here use Leica camera equipment because it’s best suited for our particular needs whatever they may be. Leica’s marketing and special edition products are sometimes the subject of ridicule here for their pretentiousness or lack of appeal to serious photographers!

"If Leica camera was a media it gonna be..."

If this phrase contains any sense or meaning, I'm afraid it eludes me. But that seems typical of many of her questions.

The repeated use of 'gonna' was irritating. If the lady can't write without using slang, I suspect that her analysis of replies will be equally sloppy.

It’s a contraction. Not slang. You are correct though on the use.

It seems that the OP has a mission, the substance of her questions was imho nothing to do with photography, but, how Leica is perceived by those that think Leica is and only is a Boutique item..

Possibly her first language is not English, but, even so, more attention should be paid to grammar and elimination of phrases like 'it gonna be'

Many many reasons for using Leica (cameras/lenses) In my case having used Leica since the early 1970's through to todays digital offerings, with Leica, the serious photographer is able to produce outstanding images and also understands that if an image is below par, it is the photographers fault not the Red Dot equipment..
