There isn’t one.  The point @lct is making is that using an M camera with the Visoflex attached and an M lens, if you move the focus ring on the lens, the Visoflex automatically switches to magnified view.

Nobody disputes that. I reacted to the statement that there was no automatic magnification at all on EVF cameras.

Understood - not sure why you thought I was responding to you.  It does appear that the point was not understood by all (perhaps read @pedaes post?) - no dispute that I can identify, but some apparent confusion.  I apologise if you feel my clarification was unnecessary,

If you need proof, try attaching a lens without the focusing flange or whatever it’s called (eg the Zeiss Distagon 15/2.8 ZM) to an M10 or M11 with the Visoflex attached - move the focus ring; no magnification.

Thanks - everyday is a school day!

Not really, as you say, confusion reigned.

A bit of a push against an open door...  Leica L lenses will only trigger magnification at half-press and focus ring movement BTW.

No need for half-press.

I just tested it with the SL3 and a 21mm SL lens.

Talking M cameras, there will obviously be a cam as long as there is a rangefinder. I have never read of this mechanism having an electronic function. Can you provide a reference, please?

Do the mechanical moving parts of the RF mechanism have a built-in electronic function or capability? No.

Neither do the purely-mechanical movements of the, for example, M10 baseplate being removed or replaced. Or the M10/M11 ISO dials being rotated.

Yet both of those simply add tiny magnets and magnetic-field detectors/encoders to produce an electromagnetic signal - that inform the CPU that the baseplate has been removed (and to display a warning on the rear screen), or that the camera's ISO dial has been rotated to position x, so the CPU can adjust the exposure and metering accordingly.

I expect, as a resident of Dorset, you share the UK fascination with railways.

The very same overall concept of a purely mechanical event (a train entering a certain "block" or section of the rail route) automatically triggering an electrical or electronic response (powered semaphores, warning lights, clanging bells, and gates all reacting automatically, up to miles away) has been used by railways for nearly a century.

Just glue or screw a micromagnet onto one of the moving levers (or even the parallax-correcting moving framelines) of the RF mechanism at some position, and a magnetic-field detector (or "encoder") onto the non-moving camera body right beside or above that section of the lever.

https://www.thethriftybot.com/products/thrifty-absolute-magnetic-encoder

If the RF mechanism moves even slightly, the magnetic field moves and registers as weaker or stronger at the detector/encoder location.

The detector sends a "Hey, the lens is being focused" signal to the camera's CPU. Can be a very simple binary "movement/no movement," on/off, 1 or 0 signal

CPU checks that electronic viewing is actually in use (maybe), and then sends a signal to the display system, to "magnify and zoom in on the center of the electronic viewing image, for 5 or 10 seconds."

All "at the speed of light," more or less.

I set my SL2 to BBF, after which a turn of the focus ring produces magnification; no shutter press required.

I removed focusing from the joystick press (no BBF) and set focus aid to auto-magnification: the camera still magnifies when the focusing ring is turned without a half-press of the shutter. The required shutter half-press may be an SL-specific function. With focus aid turned off, the camera has no auto-magnify, regardless of whether I half-press the shutter or not.

I never use BBF, dislike it as it upsets my camera hold.

With SL cameras, my thumb naturally goes to the joystick and thus the BBF position.

The ergonomics of the SL2-S buttons did not match up with my digits; whereas the GH7 provides just the right placement of buttons for BBF plus an additional two on the front set for magnify and focus ring enable/disable. The GH7 is a EVF system that works well for manually focusing AF lenses and also purely manual cine lenses. On the SL2-S I hated how easily the panasonic lens focus ring was to nudge. On a EVF-M, I would like to see magnify toggle on a rear button and auto-zoom enable/disable of a front button.
