In the States, it's a small increase for German goods and a huge one for Chinese: - The M11M is now $10,160 (up from $9,495 a week ago, up from $8,999 last year). - The BP-SCL7 is now $380 (up from $199). - The charger for same is $345. (guess I'm glad I ordered the latter two from Adorama as a $360 package a few weeks ago...). The camera increase is not terrible, and in line with general relative prices of Leica vs. others, but if Leica wants to sell cameras, it's not a good look for a battery to be $400 when tax is included. D The battery is made in China. The new price includes 145% tariffs. Customers pay the tariff cost. In Switzerland, the battery costs CHF 175.00, which is $210. D Jeez, that’s a serious price for a battery and charger. Hopefully these price increases are short lived for the US. Can you just order batteries from the EU or do they not allow them to be flown over due to the lithium? Edited May 2 by costa43
T25UFO Posted May 2 Share #1605 Posted May 2 (edited) I'm afraid it's the price you pay for Uncle Donald. In the UK the battery is £142 (converts to roughly $190 but was $170 a few weeks ago) and the charger £125 ($165 or $150 a few weeks ago). Both UK prices include 20% value added tax. UK retailers are not allowed to ship batteries overseas, not sure about the charger. I feel your pain and not just on the price of eggs ☹️ Edited May 2 by T25UFO
jrichie Posted May 2 Share #1606 Posted May 2 The same battery is $320 list here in Australia [inc GST of 10%] = US$206 Thats quite the difference but totally predictable based on the tariffs. There is absolutely no way would I be paying $600 for a battery. Its got insane. It will be interesting to see what the M-V is going to be. Surely they can reduce the price compared to an M, as the complication is reduced, unless they spin some story of a unique focussing system, to justify a higher price [which I have no doubt they probably will]. No kidding that it's the tariffs, since these are the two things "in the box" (well, the charge is not, anymore) that are ostensibly made in China. I was actually surprised at how little the camera went up, since I thought Germany got hit with a new one too. I saw this coming, which is why I bought everything before the tariffs hit. On the other hand, the reason why the batteries are absurdly expensive doesn't really fix the fact that they are. D

On the flip side, places like Leica Miami will typically raise prices of used gear to maintain balance for sales and trades. Doesn’t help new buyers, of course.

I would have done that, except I have 3 batteries already. Given the epic battery life on this camera, and the storage difficulties with Li-Ion, it didn't seem worth it. The real tariff pain that I didn't really consider would be the Visoflex 2, but I ended up buying a used one a few weeks ago. That new looks like it's still $800ish, but I can't imagine how insanely expensive that will get soon. It's a little bit of a shock when your previous Leica could run off a $100 (used) Olympus VF-2. Taking pics for assessment of used gear, however, is a pain. I’d rather just ship it, based on an estimated trade range, and then trust a fair evaluation. D I had to look Visoflex 2 prices here in the USA. BHPhoto wants $798. Leica Store Miami wants $1510. All this is before sales tax and shipping. Crazy times. I just realized I have a few thousand dollars worth of Leica batteries (if I had to buy them new). Edited May 2 by Crem

D Yup. it says made in China. What aggravates me is the companies who marked all there stock up at midnight. I saw batteries in stock for $240 when I went to bed and $380 at breakfast! NO stock has landed and had tariffs paid and made it to as shelf yet! I found a dealer in Colorado who was raising the price on new stock only and I bought another spare there. He will have every nickel of my business I can spend there moving forward!

D Since you mention them. I notice BH raised their price on current stock at midnight . Great extra profit they are making there! they were in stock at $240 and unstuck the next day at $380. It's a bit of a sour taste really, no product haas been tariffed and made it to shelves yes. The tariff just makes retailers more money

The tariff just makes retailers more money Not sure it’s possible for most Leica retailers to track unserialized items to know what was pre-tariff versus post-tariff inventory. They have to change the price on a set date if they’re not physically labeling their product boxes with price stickers. No one had many of the batteries in stock anyway — most places are out of stock.

If they can’t focus past infinity, they may stop short of infinity in hotter weather. If you were shooting outside on a hot day, black lens, standing in the sun for awhile, then maybe manual focus of the AF lens does stop right at infinity because it’s at one end of its tolerance.
