It won't. Those old photos will likely not be accessible any longer.  My guess is that the code updates to Fotos were so wide ranging that it may never display those old images properly. It was never meant to be an archival solution, no phone app ever is. I would recommend uninstalling the app, forgetting the devices in bluetooth settings, deleting the pairing on the cameras and starting from scratch, then updating the camera firmware. We did this 5-6 times during the beta testing phase...it's a two minute procedure.

I have been able to access my old Nikon digital photos with current versions of their app software.

There is no reason why one would not reasonably expect this from Leica as well. As I have explained before, some M11 photos display just fine. Others do not. I imagine it is a rather simple fix once they figure out where it is. Probably an error in some branching statement or some logical switch is set wrong or it could be a memory management problem. Perhaps they delete the object that contains the display image. Everything else shows up on the screen as it should.

I know there is a reporting feature within the app and it is monitored, so you could try reaching out to Leica via that channel.

I had a similar issue when changing from the regular to the beta Fotos app.

It was as it had lost the BD of where the images were stored.
But if I went to the PHOTOS app from Apple, they where all there and opened fine.

mrmr - just to verify - are you connecting to the camera before looking at the menu? You have to be connected to the camera to enable background transfer via the ... menu. You can enable the Date/Time Sync and Geotagging without being connected.

Edit - I have no experience with Android, so the procedure could well be different than with iPhone. It sounds like there has been little success with getting this to work on Android, so I doubt these tips will help. Sorry.

Thanks you.
Yes I am connected, by bluetooth.
But to clarify I am not "connected" by wifi. I'm assuming we're talking about the same thing but I could be in the wrong.
I'll explain and show the screens.

Just to make sure that I'm not missing something, here's what I did after resetting everything to zero/removing everything as described in my previous post:
- turn on the camera
- open the phone app
- on the camera > navigate to the Leica FOTOS section > Connectivity = Performance Mode > navigate to Pairing screen
- on the phone app > Add Camera > Select camera > M11 > shows "camera found" > "Connect" > "tap to pair and connect" > Pair with Leica M11? also allow access to contacts and call history? (I've tried with and without this option) > Sync Date & Time ? (I've tried with and without this option) > Geotagging? (I've tried with and without this option)
- App is now connected and showing photos that are on my camera
- I select the camera Icon in the top right to turn off this camera gallery view
- The app now shows the Leica gallery
- I close this to close the wifi connection screen and get access to the "···" menu for the. bluetooth / background transfer menu  > shown in the attached screenshots

I'm sorry, but I can see from your screenshots that the Android version of FOTOS is different. You are connected in the same manner via Bluetooth, but attached below is the menu that you see on an iPhone in the same situation. Not only did they not give android users background transfer, but they also left out the quick remote, which is very handy. Hopefully Leica is working towards an Android solution. I wish I could be more help!

The video linked in the opening post is not working for me, but I found it here as well on the official Leica Camera YouTube channel:

OK that was MUCH more informative than the release notes. The background thing is great - sometimes I want to give someone I've photographed an Instax print but the process of getting the image to the phone and then to the printer was so cumbersome that it wasn't super practical.

I had the beta with background push on the M11-P.  Then it expired and the M11-D was on a regular firmware 2.1.3, when the SSD failed and all its images were unavailable to download (hope some will be recovered).  If I were on the beta, I'd have at least the previews.

If you use internal memory on any M11 family camera, have background push on for all new photos.

Android user here, yeah that's exactly what I am seeing also. Seeing all the hype over the new update, when I go update, I get nothing lol. Matter of fact, previously updating the app/m11 everything just works, this time, right after I try to connect to the app, and I forgot exactly but it said something like "doesn't recognize..." or something along the lines, so had to unpair and do everything again. Maybe we'll have to create another sub section for Android and iOS now? 😂

Quick question, as I've read already, after updating the m11, it's suggested to reset the camera. What if I don't want to? Does that mean the updates will not be applied to the camera?

I had one issue with freezing in one specific shooting setting in the testing period, after I reset the camera, it worked as it should function.
It still works until you will encounter an issue.

didn't you say you sold all M11

how are you doing to do that on m9 to M10?

Updates will be applied whether you reset or not. I would only go to the trouble of resetting if you are seeing any abnormal behavior.

While we love our Leica's, I wish Leica could have their tech on par. I mean we agree Leica menu's are way simpler than other brands, so why is everyone having different issues with theirs? One update (and reset) should do the trick. Luckily I've not encounter any issue that make it unusable.

Good to know, thanks. Was about to ask something else, but I went ahead and just read the manual again and on p140, it states that if you do you'll be prompt with if you like to wipe the profile, and the image counter too. If anyone wanted to know.

Oh wow.
I do expect apps across the two platforms to work differently in some ways due to some tiny differences in UX interaction patterns, but that one is interesting.

The download option is on the left bottom side opposite of the share icon you've been using on the bottom right. Once downloaded, they show in the Leica Gallery and in the Photos app.

I need to clarify, after download bar finished, it’s error sign

i havent been able to download successfully hence my gallery is empty.. even when i enabled the background transfer, i could see it’s tranferring only to get error
