Just installed new firmware on Q3 28 and Q3 43. In order to show the correct time, Q3 43 must be set to Daylight Savings Time: ON, while Q3 28 must be set to OFF. Welcome, dear visitor! Change the DST on the Q3 43 to "OFF" and then change the time to be correct.

Surely it can’t be that hard to fix. What happens if you don’t do anything? Well, your counter resets to zero. On my first update - I was too eager to update and I didn’t read any of the topics regarding the update - my counter reset to zero. My workaround was to change the counter letter - which can be done in the settings menu under *Camera Settings/*Edit File Name - and then reset it back to L at the next update once I knew about the reset workaround. Be aware that if you download your photographs using the FOTOS App then the App automatically changes the first letter do D.

It is now dead. I called and emailed the repair center, but haven't heard back yet. This is the first time I've ever lost a device on a firmware update. oh boy this is not good. It's first case I have heard that the camera is dead on update. It happened multiple times before on Q2, and/or other M cameras. but it's me first time seeing it on Q3. Hope you get an answer shortly and get it fixed.
BobsFirstLeica Posted December 17, 2024 Share #86 Posted December 17, 2024 (edited) Always read accounts of initial impressions and results of individuals who upgrade almost immediately when one is available. For my use cases the previous Q updates have been sufficient for both Q3's (yes I am one of those). The unfortunate experience of US Daily Digital will cause me to delay any updates until it seems that his update "brick" was an anomaly or a bug. Since getting service on Leicas can be a long process (unless it has changed in recent times) I am more conservative with their updates. Hopefully member, Digital will be able to get his/her cam in working order soon. Edited December 17, 2024 by BobsFirstLeica

Yeah it’s too late to do anything once you have updated about the count. all you can really do to avoid duplicate exposure numbers is change the letter prefix - head to page 5 in the menu, then down to and enter *Camera Settings. Right at the top you’ll see *Edit File Name, enter and change the letter.
Marc283 Posted December 17, 2024 Share #88 Posted December 17, 2024 In the release notes of new firmware, there are several languages mentioned. But not all are available in the camera. Doe anyone know why that is?

Not sure what to do going forward, I mean it's too late to fix things already done, right? There is another workaround if the counter has already reset. You can search deep into this website for the detail but essentially you take a picture, and rename it L1000999 and save it onto the SD card. Take two more pictures and which will be numbered L1001001 and 2, and rename one of them L1002999 and repeat the process till you get approach your original count. You end up taking 1 or 2 pictures to advance the count 1000 each time. of course if you already have 10's of thousands of pictures you may decide not to bother but if your count is pretty low and you want to keep things orderly you can give it a try. 2

wlaidlaw Posted December 18, 2024 Share #93 Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) Fotos is not offering me the option to update from FW 2.0.5 to 3.0 on my Q3-28. I deleted and redownloaded Fotos to make sure I had the latest version. Just about to get out my SD card reader and update via SD card. Wilson PS SD card Update successful. Fotos is now finally showing update available. It seems it is a bit like me, slow to get going in the morning. I forgot to take a picture before the upgrade so my counter started at 0001 again. The last picture I had taken was numbered 4898. I didn't have my laptop so I took a picture (0001), put the SD card into a card reader attached to my Samsung Galaxy phone, went to the folder on the card (DCIM/100Leica I think it is named) and renamed the picture to 4899, one after the last picture that I had taken. Put the card back in the Q3, took another picture and it was numbered 4900, so now back on track. 2
bsmith Posted December 18, 2024 Share #96 Posted December 18, 2024 I found it best to rename and renumber all files before archiving because it helps dramatically when searching. I could care less how the camera numbers.

How do engineers manage to avoid Blackout during continuous shooting and why can't they avoid it during single shooting? When the Q3 first came out I thought maybe it had something to do with the new 61MP sensor (vs. 47MP on the Q2) causing slightly slower sensor readout, but then I remembered they went from Maestro II on the Q2 to Maestro IV on the Q3, which should allow for faster processing/readout. I genuinely don't understand why the Q3 has such a long blackout. I could never get used to it, so that (among a couple other reasons) led me to sell my Q3. I'm currently looking for another Q2. The sensor readout is independent of processor used, though processor affects the time to process the image. 61MP sensor has slower readout than the 47MP. Steve19958 Posted December 18, 2024 Share #100 Posted December 18, 2024 Completed the upgrade. Uploaded my saved user profiles. I noticed that the button customizations I had is not saved with the profiles. Am I corrected about this? Ended up redoing the button customizations again saving them with each profile. Whish there was a global save for this.
