But doesn’t the baseplate have that clear plastic over the CE sticker. You know the plastic we never remove so that the base is pristine when we eventually sell the camera? So that’s why it doesn’t look as glossy gorgeous as the top plate. The baseplate is our plastic covered sofa! It’s probably black glossy if we dare to remove the plastic cover.

The M11 cameras don't have clear plastic on the baseplate. These are just computer renderings, and they didn't get the reflections right on the bottom plate. Wait until we see real photos of the camera before worrying.

Aren't the current battery covers painted plastic? The M11 silver is brass top/bottom plates, so whatever they do for the silver M11 will probably be replicated here.

Im curious so as to how aluminum under the black paint glossy would age as this is i believe only the second attempt leica has ever done so? The first being the noctilux 0.95 and summilux 35 FLE korean independence edition.. which i believe would be seeing no heavy usage

There's a few Voigtlanders with gloss black on aluminum like the 75 1.9 single coated variant. But since paint adheres better to aluminum than brass, maybe no one has an example yet. I would guess the wear will be no different than what we see with the anodized black aluminum lenses – silver eventually showing through on ribbed/raised surfaces and on places where it's chipped or scratched.

Ah yeah.. i almost forget like this BP fiasco put me on different planet whereas it is the same world lol.. actually.. it could be a plus too where the paint adheres better and sticks stronger..

When the bottom becomes brassed after years of use, but the battery cover remains black, it would look odd.

Glossy Black is not a great sounding name, have they used it before?

It's an interesting choice to base it on the M11 and not the P, the specs sheet (when I looked at it) was seemingly not updated to include this variant but that would mean 64gb internal storage, no sapphire display, and of course no content credentials?

Good that you point this out, because this is indeed disappointing. I'm not a native speaker of English but if these specs are right the name Glossy might be very adequate because it also suggests window dressing and glamour. They never used it before, but Leica has never been that commercial as the last 5-10 years either.

I've just seen Thor's YouTube re the Glossy Black M11 from the Leica Melbourne Store. At 3:00 he explains that it has something "that changes everything" it has a Glossy Black battery cover so "for us who likes Leica, this is world news and really changes everything, and of course with the battery comes the camera!"

So funny and dead pan delivery too.

Thanks Thorsten
