SL3 Back Button Focusing?

I have BBF on my SL2-S and works fine and I like to use it.

I am unable to set it up on SL3, would you please let me know setup procedure, thank you.

If you are using modern Panasonic or Sigma lenses, simply set the switch on the lens to MF.

You  need to set the joystick (in the customize control part of the menu) to AF-L (mine arrived without that setting). And of course put the camera in manual focus mode.

A little counterintuitive, but Focus mode should be MF (Main Menu- Focusing - Focus Mode). Set the Joystick to control MF mode focusing (Main Menu - Customization -Customize Control - Joystick - MF Mode -then pick AFs/AFs + AE-L, AFc, or AFc + AE-L). Save it as a preset.

BBF does not work with lenses with an MF/AF clutch (Panasonic).

Switch is fine, clutch is a problem.

If you use the switch on the lens. If you use the switch on the camera there is no problem.

If the lens has an AF/MF switch, then you cannot switch AF/MF in the camera.

On mine you can - I never use the lens switch.

On your SL3 (see title) you can? I doubt it. I just tried it on my SL3, and that is not possible.

It does not make sense to be able to change AF/MF on the camera when there is a switch on the lens. Imagine the switch being in the MF position but the camera switching to AF. That would be a hell of a confusion.

I didin't realize you meant the SL3 as such, but thought you were taking about lenses in general - If the SL3 does this, it is a strange limitation.

You are correct. Most cameras allow switching to MF in the camera when the lens is in AF mode, and the lens has a switch. Only when switching the lens to MF, the camera is typically blocked from changing to AF.
