I like the 24mp CL as it is. If a full frame 40mp sensor was added to the compact body and IBIS or other vibration reduction. This gives the current CL lenses a 10 or 12mp size, which is not ideal but OK. I think a 60mp sensor would be too power hungry for a compact body. Compact is the point not an SL or even an SL3.

Hey, I did not wish for 40,60,120 mpx.

I would buy such a camera.
As a matter of fact I bought a Panasonic S9 for the same reason: looking for a modern compact camera with ibis where I can use my TL lenses. Only thing I miss from the CL camera is the EvF.
Should Leica make a really compact full frame (or aps-c) L-mount camera with ibis and EvF I would buy it.

That’s the point I wanted to make!
give us an s9 equivalent with evf !

Bravo 👏

Which lenses would you use it with? The discontinued TL lenses, or full frame lenses?

I don't see the point of a small camera unless you have lenses to suit.

With a modern IBIS and EVF CL camera (again full frame or aps-c, I don't care) we could use TL lenses (the 11-23, 35 and 55-135 would be a perfect small kit), M lenses, Sigma contemporary fixed lenses, Panasonic full frame zooms (20-60mm would be perfect) and, if size doesn't matter, even SL lenses would be compatible. So many options.

The SL3 would also work, but it's too big, heavy and expensive for most every day or travel photography. I'm not a professional (I guess the majority of Leica users are hobbiest) and I can perfectly live with a camera that is not as "perfect" as the SL3.  A 24mpx full frame or even 10mpx cropped sensor would be just fine.

Leica would be daft to release a full frame camera if they only expected it to be used with discontinued lenses at a resolution that would be considered low end two decades ago, or with third party lenses.

The Panasonic 20-60 is 50% heavier than the TL 18-56. The Sl lenses would weigh twice what the camera does. Leica could release a series of small full frame f4 lenses perhaps, but I can't see it happening.

A small M camera might make sense, but I can't see a low resolution full frame camera as any substitute for a CL. I am hoping/expecting that another manufacturer will step in before my CL breaks and can't be replaced.

I agree with @KitW. What you want @Pelu2010 is essentially a Leica equivalent of the Sony A7CR. Sony has many interesting lenses with the 24,40,50 f/2.5, 24-50 f/2.8, 20-70 f/4 for a small and light travel kit. You could also choose the Sigma DG DN lenses, that are available in L-mount. But then Leica wouldn’t sell lenses so I don’t see that happening. We‘ll see a Q3/71 before we see a resurrected Leica CL in either flavor. There must’ve been a reason for it’s demise.

That is what you what me to want.
Form me it’s ok if at the beginning the lenses are big. (Leica) If I want small lenses I switch to M lenses or second party. In the long run I am sure that we will see a camera > small, interchangeable af lenses > and medium high sensor ( 24 > 40 mpx) and yes I would like small ne af lenses for this camera and all the other cameras too.
And it was less about me. It’s more to see if people would love to have a small camera with a new concept of lenses from Leica.

Little chance to see an APS camera at Leica IMO. As i expect it, it would be both compact and full frame in order to fit not only FF lenses but also APS ones in crop mode. The sensor would need plenty enough pixels for that, so little chance for 24mp IMO. Could be a 61mp sensor a-la-Sigma fpl. I own one already but i still miss a recognition of 6-bit coded M lenses, an hybrid shutter, IBIS and an EVF less ugly than the Sigma's, although the latter is handy TBH.

No. A CL sized SL would be hard to handle with SL lens.

I am using my SL lenses on the CL and my M lenses too. And I did not say, that it should have the SL size. I am sure there will be technology that enables smallness. And I am dreaming of lighter, smaller, SL lenses anyway.

Full frame SL lenses with CL lens size are not going to happen.
Your best bet is Sony, and accept it is Sony.

Sony have proven with the a7c range that powerful and small can go together without it having to be a fixed lens option or an FP lacking some key bits. I would be interested in something like that. An interchangeable lens, rangefinder shaped camera. I’d probably still use it with manual glass as it is my preference. A Leica version of the a7cr with a decent evf could be very interesting. The mythical evf M would be more so…

Best bet….use lenses now available with the only CL we  do have. I am totting a quartet of primes with mine today covering 24-135mm; Sigma 16mm f1.4, Leica TL 35/1.4 and 60/2.8 and Sigma 90mm f2.8.

Yesterday I was out with the CL and a set of manual focus Voigtlander VM lenses; 15mm f4.5 III, 21mm f1.4, 35mm f1.2 III and 75mm f1.5.

What we do have is a GREAT platform for all sorts of lenses.
