Update, FW 2.1.3 works fine on my early M11 (May 2022). Not to say that 2.0.2 was bad but i got minor freezes with it that i don't have under 2.1.3 anymore.

Not usually something I’d debate too much, but I’m more than a little unsure having read so much….

Currently  2.0.2

Definitely update. 2.1.3 (current) is the first M11 firmware that is rock solid for most of us.

That’s 2:1 for so far.
If I hadn’t seen the post one page back with someone saying their camera didn’t turn on after update (with nothing posted since) I’d be a lot more confident…. 🙊

There's always that one person that somehow fubars their firmware update. Not always their fault, but often – pushed button during the update, plugged or unplugged a cable, turned off by accident, etc.

Also it's only 2:1 of those responding, not 2:1 of everyone who did the update. Not many of us are even keeping up with this thread to see your question. If there were major issues, you'd see this thread full of complaints rather than one or two with issues.

I updated mine to the latest in the end (via Fotos), having experienced a couple of issues on day one.

For anyone less familiar with Leica than me (maybe updating for the first time), and/or of a slightly nervous disposition when updating firmware, I'd suggest ignoring the progress bar.  On mine it stuck on 0 for what seemed like minutes, then jumped to around 90% in a few seconds, where it stayed for what felt like minutes more.  Even though the little blocks were animating it had me slightly concerned.  Same for when it said to restart but kind of froze with the screen on for a good while after I flicked the switch to off.  Anyway, it turned back on fine after a bit and says 2.1.3 now.

Haven't had chance to use it properly since to confirm if it's more stable, fingers crossed it is....

You should be good to go now. Even though we shouldn't have to, in the firmware release notes, Leica says to reset the camera after the firmware update. If you have any user profiles, it's better to not save them and rebuild them from scratch (not documented in the notes, but something that has helped). The reset and not re-using user profiles solves almost all the lingering glitches people have had after the 2.1.3 update.

I do wonder why you should do things that were not explicitly described by Leica in the update. I could live with Leica saying, please reset to factory settings this time and not back up any old profiles. We want to put an end to the old problems. But I don't think it's right to do that every time. I use a lot of old lenses in the M and R range that I would then have to enter again, along with the rest of the settings.

I also don't think the pressure that some people here are putting on me to do that is appropriate. I expect high quality from this high-priced product.

I never reset the camera. Never had issues. It should handled by the update process.

Rebuilding user profiles is really a last resort for those still experiencing issues. This isn't something specific to Leica, sometimes saved customs modes on other brands go haywire after substantial firmware updates, too.

Sadly not.
It didn’t feel ‘sticky’ like it did initially on SD storage (but then I have also put in a brand new formatted uhs-ii sd card - lexar 1800x).
Had my first full-freeze after about 100 shots and needed battery removal. Full manual control, live view with focus zoom, screen frozen. Camera locked solid and not responsive or functioning at all, including power switch.

Hadn’t set up any user profiles yet (was a bit confused how they work tbh and need to re-read manual).

Will try a full reset in any case.
Won’t say anything further for fear of reprisals.

What do you mean?

You have been unbelievably unlucky. Take it you bought pre-loved. I would take it back to "Factory settings" and reload FW. Also, in spite of best advice you will get elsewhere, personally I would Format card in the camera.

If it then happens again I would not mess about - take it back to Dealer whilst frozen. Do you know why it was traded in?

Yes, reset the camera and don't re-load any saved user profiles. Format the card with SD Formatter on your computer (official software from the SD card association) then also format it in camera.

https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/

If you bought it used, it's possible there's a hardware issue. Due to the issues with the early M11 units, I would never buy one used unless I personally knew the seller, and they could vouch for its reliability.

If the reset doesn't work, you have two choices: return it or send it off to Leica for repair. The latter will be a long wait, and I don't recommend it if you have the option to return it.

Reloading the firmware isn't possible, only updating each time new firmware comes out. Can't revert to older firmware, either.
