cesaregal Posted September 23, 2024 Share #502 Posted September 23, 2024 Good morning, how many MPs will we have at the various planned digital frames (43, 60, 75, 90, 120, 150)? Will we have 12MP at 90mm?
LanceR Posted September 23, 2024 Share #503 Posted September 23, 2024 I am excited by the prospect of this camera. I sold my M11 earlier this year and migrated to the SL3. My tale is like others, that I found focusing increasingly difficult with the rangefinder as I age. Although I had a number of primes for my M11, I used the 35mm Sigma APO as my travel and everyday carry lens. I used the Summilux 50mm when I wanted more subject isolation and character. Even prior to using a Leica M, I shot with Fuji and found most of my photos around the 35mm and 50mm equivalents. My M11 backup camera was a GRIIIx. While I enjoy the additional capabilities offered by the SL3, I do not enjoy the additional size and weight. I rented a Q2 before buying my M11. I really liked the camera, except for the 28mm focal length, which isn't for me. The 43mm APO as my travel and everyday carry looks very promising. I will keep my SL3 for other tasks. I put myself on multiple lists for the new Q3 variant and it seems like the existence of the camera is confirmed. My biggest question about the new Q3 variant is about stabilization. I was able to get sharp results with the M11, but the IBIS in the SL3 really helps for most of my shooting situations. I am curious to know if there is any stabilization available in the new Q3.

Michi D Posted September 23, 2024 Share #506 Posted September 23, 2024 Wow, the mtf charts look extremely good. I am sure we are going to see a lot of amazing images from this camera in the future. I am still and always impressed by the Q image quality, but I think this lens is even a notch apart, technically I mean (the look we will see)
LocalHero1953 Posted September 23, 2024 Share #507 Posted September 23, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Still no indication that it has OIS. The best lens in the world will be upset if it doesn't look sharp on 60mp.
Stuart Richardson Posted September 23, 2024 Share #508 Posted September 23, 2024 (edited) The lens looks like a huge improvement over the Q 28mm version, especially in the edges. Apologies to grab the mtf from different hands, but it is all from Leica anyway, it seems. It looks like the 43mm will be better wide open than the Q 28mm is at any aperture. It is not quite as even as the apo summicron 50mm SL, but I am not sure if that translates to any notable IQ differences. It is extremely close in terms of percentages, just not quite as flat. But the differences would be very subtle. Truly looks like a stunner! Something to be very excited about in my mind. I would guess this is partially about a normal lens being easier to design from a distortion perspective and being less reliant on heavy software correction of distortion (which can diminish sharpness). This is of course a lens that is almost ten years newer, but the combination of being a more standard lens and being newer seems to have made it quite a step above in image quality. This will be capable of exceptional large prints when combined with the 60mp. As for IS, I would be very very surprised if it was not included, either in the lens or the sensor. My Dealer has confirmed it is coming and his Leica Person said he will be getting the first next week (which, hopefully, should be mine). So from my side there is zero doubt - the thing is coming

I may not (though I'd like it). But it's the wider market that counts, not us expert photographers. If the M hair shirt brigade complain about the absence of IS, then you can be sure the Q brigade will. Likaleica Posted September 23, 2024 Share #520 Posted September 23, 2024 I'm thinking that OIS/IBIS is so standard now that it isn't even mentioned. I guess we'll find out. I can't imagine the optical formula for this lens is more cumbersome than the 28 with a wider aperture.
