Odd choice.
Not wide as 35, too far from 50.

With Q3 sensor size, we now get really versatile crop camera with capabilities of wide 28, widish 35 and 20mp of sensor for 50mm users.

40mm is not versatile at all

43mm is supposedly our eye focal length. I think as an everyday carry, it’s the perfect focal length but as always, subjective.

On the fence about this one when a Sony a7cr and the Sony 40/2.5 are same size, less money and interchangeable lenses, great autofocus.  Arguably, Leica's interface is superior but once learned the Sony is not rocket science.

Good on Leica for finally getting it, their Minilux with a 40mm lens was the best point and shot made.

It’s a great combo with 28 for those of us that don’t wish to crop.

Robb

If you don't wish to crop, why would you buy a camera that is designed for cropping use?? And why wouldn't  you wish to crop on a 60 MP camera??

The question is whether the launch of such a camera makes any commercial sense in a situation when a waitlist exists for the Q3, and a whole multitude is waiting for Q3M

I mean Leica is a business and would like to exhaust the stream of profits that now seems to be in full flow, before turning to experimenting with other ideas.

This is how I would judge the likelihood of this rumour having some basis in fact

I never understood the 40mm focal length until about four years ago, when I started shooting - quite a bit - with a Makina 67. Now I think it might just be the best focal length of all. There's something, to my eye, just right about it - the Goldilocks focal length.

Perhaps Leica have noticed how well-received the Ricoh GR3X has been. If this rumour is true, I'm sure it'll be the Q camera a lot of people have been waiting for.
