After the update if you load a profile from a saved slot there is no number shown next to the profile icon, so you have no indication of what profile you have loaded or whether you have made a change to one or more of the settings in that profile.

I agree: that's exactly what I experience and it's quite frustrating.

I reloaded all my profiles after installing the firmware, and sure enough the numbers and names of the profiles are all there.

Yes they are all there.

The issue is : "After the update if you load a profile from a saved slot there is no number shown next to the profile icon, so you have no indication of what profile you have loaded or whether you have made a change to one or more of the settings in that profile. "

Have others found this to be true?

I have made the FW update and I have saved my profiles beforehand. Everything is here as before. I cannot confirm that the profile numbers have gone on the quick menu.

When I set a profile, the quick menu shows the profile number, just like before the update.

Edit: not really sure, but it looks like the magnified view for manual focusing is not as fuzzy as before, happy with that.

Just found another thread stating that the firmware download link from Leica had been given he wrong filename!!! Replace the hyphen with an underscore and it works - the filename should read q3_205.lfu

Black mark to Leica and gold star to forum members who spotted the error.

Your statement is ambiguous: does it mean that you still see profile numbers on the quick menu, or not?

It got the better of me, I updated and I can't see what the profile issue is that others are dealing with. I imported my profiles from SD Card and can switch between them. They are also still there if I power down or even remove the battery.

Yes the profiles will still be there. However select a profile, power down and up. How can you tell which profile is loaded. The profile  number you selected is not present in the menu overview. So if you forgot which profile you loaded as its notbein displayed. You will need to reload it to be certain its t h e one you selected.

2. The second paragraph is quite alarming. Can others confirm this behaviour? How else will I know which profile is active???

I find Leica has taken an "interesting" approach toward profiles. My observations:

  1. I did not see any changes to the behaviors of profiles compared to older firmware.
  2. When I select a profile on the main menu (press Menu once) and select a profile I see the number (person with 1 for instance).
  3. If I change anything, like moving from Auto ISO that is defined in the profile to ISO 400. The number disappears.
  4. When I tap on the profile icon I see a red icon with an X in a circle. This is indicating that this is not aligning with any of the stored profiles.
  5. There is no indication what profile was selected initially. Although I only changed ISO.
  6. This is the case since I got my Q3 and it renders profiles rather useless for my photography. The only reason I use it is for backing up my settings.
  7. If you use different profiles for different purposes and you don't know what profile your actual settings are based upon, you need to select the proper profile and then change the settings accordingly which again hides the underlying profile. I may look into that in the future.

Compared to my Canon R5, my Canon G5X Mark II, or my Ricoh GR III the menu logic of the Q3 is much less intuitive and consistent. But this might be only me. The best approach to me is go through the menus over and over again and memorize what's important to you. You cannot even select every menu-items to your Favorites. Only a few selected ones. I for instance change folders for each shooting. But I cannot assign "Camera Settings / Reset Image Numbering" (which is kind of misleading as it mainly adds a new folder) nor "Camera Settings / Date & Time" (that I have to access when moving to a different time zone) to the favorites.

Regarding the new feature "Implementation of a protective function to prevent the possible overwriting of existing shots" I have no clue what that means or how to use this function.

As said before all the numbers and the names came back exactly as before: no change. The only thing I can imagine as being different from others here is that I downloaded the firmware to my desktop and then transferred to the memory card. I simply don’t trust Fotos yet to not f^ck up something in the process.

As to profile numbers and names disappearing if you make changes to say ISO, then the answer will be yes if you picked a specific value, like 400. What happens is the camera sees the change you make as temporary. So logically it says this is no longer Profile 1. The original Profile 1 still exists and it is unchanged. You hit menu and in the Profile strip at the bottom of the LCD screen you will find Profile 1. OTOH if you prefer the changes you made, then you can overwrite Profile 1 by saving as Profile 1 and confirming that. It’s no different from using Office computer software.

Not working for me. Tried with download from French and UK site and, copied to root directory on SD card but get message "no new firmware found" .Will try with different SD card. Didn't work with new card either. There must be a copying error on both French and UK Leica websites.

PS tried with newly formatted SD card using download from home German website and no luck. Still get "not new firmware found' message.

Same error for me too. I went to the German site, redownloaded and the file naming convention is slightly different.

It reads like this: Q3___205.lfu

Note the capitalisation and the long underscore. This version worked for me.

Here is a quick video I made showing the profiles I have. I select one, the screen does not show the profile number, name. When I open up the profile again the profile I loaded is not present indicating its the active profile. Link below to a YouTube video I captured of this.

Question is this normal NOT to see the selected profile. The default profile shows up with the little man with a "S". Other profiles I have do not show up with any numbers, indicating that profile is loaded.
