You are sure you've got the right file for the M11M (leica_m11_mono_v2.1.2.FW) on the card ?

Fotos did the trick, but you are absolutely right: all I could see on the web landing page was the M11 FW along with release notes for M11, M11P and M11M, so I assumed it was a single file. Had to search by camera model to find that there was a specific one for the M11M. Thanks, will bear this in mind next time.

That's really too bad and disappointing. I'm afraid your camera needs to see its maker.

BTW after the update you did a complete camera reset, right ?

After the update I switched the camera off as instructed, the red light continue to blink for a few seconds.  I waited for the red light to go out and then switched the camera on.

The over exposure occurred in the middle of a sequence.  All previous exposures in that sequence were fine, did not switch the camera off, then I had two over exposures.  Switched off and on again, and the following exposures were fine.

Mmm, switching the camera off/on is not what I meant with 'a complete camera reset'.

As a last resort it's worth trying this recommendation from the release notes: "It is recommended to revert to factory settings after an update."

Of course you have to setup camera all over again !

RESETTING THE CAMERA TO FACTORY SETTINGS
This function allows you to reset all your custom menu settings back
to the factory settings. You can optionally exclude the user profiles
and image numbering from the reset individually.
▸ Select Reset Camera in the main menu
• The prompt Do you want to reset the camera settings? appears.
▸ Confirm or reject the reset to factory settings ( Yes ) / ( No )
• Selecting No will cancel the reset and the display will return to
the main menu. Selecting Yes will trigger additional prompts
regarding the settings you can opt to keep.
▸ Confirm or reject the reset of the user profiles ( Yes ) / ( No )
▸ Confirm or reject the reset of the image numbering ( Yes )/( No )
• The message Please Restart the Camera appears.
▸ Switch the camera off and on again
Notes
• Date & time, as well as the preferred language will have to be set
up again after a reset. Relevant prompts will appear on screen.
• You reset the image numbering separately via the menu item
Re set Image Numbering (see p. 146).

Quick Question, having read the other posts in this thread: Is updating the firmware through Fotos now generally accepted as being "safe?"

Older threads here repeated the mantra to only update off the SD card but quite a few people here used the app.

Coming from a guy that used a x100v for four years before switching to m11, when I had the x100v, I never bother doing a single update and it was working fine. Well, also hearing people say how bad the app is I didn't bother because it worked just fine. As for the m11, the app is stable I think, and twice that I've did the update with the app, all seems fine. In ways I'm old tech, but the connection so far between the m11 and my android app is good. However, I'm a tad disappointed that there is strange behaviors and unstable firmware with Leica.

I posted here 8 weeks ago to report that my M11 bricked while updating 2.1.1

Leica repair promised to return it in 6 weeks. They took about 5 days longer and apologized. I picked up the repaired camera at the LA Leica store yesterday and it seems to be operating fine. Today I learned that there is a 2.1.2 update. No way am I updating after just getting my camera back. But I wonder. Do you think the latest firmware could've been updated to the camera last week (Thursday to be specific because that's when I learned in an email that they were completing the repair) before shipping the camera on Friday?

Rockyocean,   It could be updated.   Just go to Menu in your camera, then at the last page, press Camera Information.   The camera will display the latest firmware version in your camera.  Personally, if the camera doesn't have the latest firmware, I suggest you wait a few weeks and read the forum comments on this firmware version update here before deciding what you wish to do.  While waiting for others to see what happens, go out and enjoy taking photographs.  r/ Mark

PS  When updating any Leica firmware, always follow the instructions exactly as written.  Failing to do so, could cause a return vacation trip to Leica.  Last, if you feel uncomfortable with updating firmware, simply take your camera to the LA Leica Store and staff will update your camera for free.

Only updated through app so far and – fingers crossed – so far all good. Easy and convenient.

> Main Menu > Page 5 > Camera Information > Camera Firmware Version.  If it says 2.1.2 then it has the latest version.

I skipped the last update. I think I will skip this one too as my M11 is not too buggy : one overexposure once in a while and one or two freezes to remind me that it’s an atypical thing (as a caterham, a morgan or a jaguar 🙂 )

Listen: a Leica is not an A-typical thing: it's German not British ...

I’ve only ever done it through Fotos.

It’s worked fine.

A bug that this firmware introduced to my early M11 is that occasionally, when taking an image while in live view, the live view feed will not come back. I have to enable it again. I can however, press the shutter button while the screen is black and it does take an image. So its not a freeze.

Camera set up at the time: Uncoded lens. Electronic shutter. Manual Exposure.

Thanks Leica. The most stable firmware for me was still FW 1.6.1 with virtually no freezes or hiccups. 😒

Firmware 1.6.1 is already an urban legend. The best firmware!😀

Anyone know if the bug in the auto iso settings have been fixed which always seems to push the SS base higher?

Eg set a base shutter of 125….it will set the base to 180 before cranking up iso.

Not going to ask about the magenta cast :)

No, this bug hasn't gone away.

Not sure to see bugs there and shutter speeds are easy to set manually as well as white balance so i don't expect Leica to change anything for now but i may be wrong. I would like if Leica could reduce shutter inertia in continuous mode though.
