Ugh. This is the first time in my life that a firmware update arrives for a camera I own before I applied the previous firmware update.

You must have been happy with the older firmware. Basically the updates don't add new functionality: just bug fixes, so ...

So I'm fairly new to digital Leica so excuse my dumb question, if I update through the app, during the update, does it also "wipe" format the SD card while it's at it? If I were to download and drop the file to the SD and update that way, will that also "wipe" format the SD? I want to know because I want to go ahead with the update, but would like to keep the few shot I have on the SD for a little longer. Or I remove the SD before updating through the app, and afterwards put the SD back in?

I would never use a card with images on while I'm updating, even via the app, but either download the images or put a fresh card in.

As an aside, I never keep images on a card longer than absolutely necessary - I download and back them up as soon as I'm near a computer.

I removed the card and updated just fine. It's the second time I updated the m11 through the app. Just a tad heart wrenching when the m11 screen looks like it's loading but not moving for a long minute or longer.

As for updating through the app, I think the app downloads from the web, switch wifi to m11 then sends it over and installs so skips saving it on SD/internal so I think that's nice.

Lastly, as for photos on the card, right, I always download them to the computer/external storage when I can, but I also keep a few favorites on the card to view from time to time. Just me I guess..

What exactly do you mean: "can't change the file root name" ? Please check to see if you're not accidentally trying to update the default profile !

My mistake. "When a strange thing happened please read the manual".

You can only modify the first letter (L) in the root file name. From L11 to in my case M11. Solved.

Many thanks for your help.

No prompts when I upgraded, and everything (including language, date and time, seem to be fine. I'll keep an eye on it and report back when it dies on me 😉

Same here.

I updated this morning via the app on my iPhone.

Got two errors on the phone saying it hasn’t completed. The camera disagreed with the phone, completed the update and seems fine.

Same with me. I did not update to 2.1.1 and went straight to 2.1.2. My guess is, during the upgrade, and after saving downloaded firmware, wifi in camera got rebooted. Nonetheless, camera continued showing the update progress bar even with the app was suggesting removing and adding again the camera. Thankfully, I just ignored app suggestions, and let camera finish its thing.

Updated firmware yesterday but hasn't cured the over exposure problem.  It seems to be linked to auto ISO.  First photo below, 1/250 shutter speed at f5.6 and the camera chose 12,500 ISO.  Took another photo, same result.  Popped the battery out, took another photo, shutter speed 1/320 at f5.6 and correctly exposed at 4,000 ISO.  Both photos straight out of the camera and no post processing.

This is hugely disappointing ☹️ M11 Mono and 35mm APO lens

I also have intermittent over exposure issues when using Auto ISO. I started a thread on it a few weeks ago. I reported it to Leica who suggested I return the camera for “ calibration “ of the sensor. Doesn’t sound like a firmware fix for this issue is on the cards.

M11 went fine, but currently unable to load the update on the M11M via SD card. Firmware update option grayed out. Tried resetting the camera, using different cards, formatting them etc. so far to no avail. Battery is 100%. Will try via Fotos.

This morning I installed the SW on my M11-P and the M11M. The installation went without any problems. Then photographed today. And later saw in LR that he gave me the Summilux-M 1:1.4 /35 ASPH. displayed, although the Summilux-M 1:1.4 /50 ASPH. (V2) 2023 was on it. The lens was also included in the update process. I immediately turned on the camera and it actually showed the wrong lens. Removed the lens and put it back on and now it was OK.

You are sure you've got the right file for the M11M (leica_m11_mono_v2.1.2.FW) on the card ?

That's really too bad and disappointing. I'm afraid your camera needs to see its maker.

BTW after the update you did a complete camera reset, right ?

It's certainly been reported to Leica, quite a few of us have this. I think however the current firmware push is to have a stable firmware which doesn't need a battery popping out every now and then. Prioritisation rather than ignoring. As it only happens on auto ISO I'd have thought it must be firmware fixable.
