davidnvh Posted June 2, 2024 Share #261 Posted June 2, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I never had an issue with my M11 before (well, maybe once or twice) updating to this newest firmware, but today, within 30 minutes of shooting, I had to remove my battery and restart the camera 3 times! No SD card, just internal memory. Strange behavior and extremely disappointing. Also encountering upside down images, this is worrisome if Leica decides to push this firmware to the upcoming M11-D as well. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Hi davidnvh, Take a look here Did the May 2024 firmware update 2.1.1. solve your M11 freezing problems?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
RobW0 Posted June 2, 2024 Share #262 Posted June 2, 2024 Do the images show upside down on the camera as well or just when you import them to a computer? What program are you importing into( lightroom, C1)?
davidnvh Posted June 2, 2024 Share #263 Posted June 2, 2024 Just when imported to Lightroom. As I posted, I pulled my camera out to "play" with it and it froze again! I even did a hard reset on it just an hour ago.
crons Posted June 2, 2024 Share #264 Posted June 2, 2024 I fear the M11 will never be right.
gweber Posted June 2, 2024 Share #265 Posted June 2, 2024 (edited) Having my M11-P for a bit more than 5 months now and took about 2.5k photos. Had one freeze very early on 2.0.1 (although, I‘m not sure I just didn’t allow sufficient thinking time) and 4 or 5 photos upside down in April. Updated to 2.1.1 two days after it was out. No issues at all. I did format the internal storage as well after the firmware upgrade, as I assumed, if excessive files had been written to the SD card, this would apply to the internal storage as well. Regarding the upside down photos: maybe, the acceleratormeter got confused and wrote wrong exif information. I never checked on my file with an issue, but had something similar recently on my iPhone. Very happy to be amongst those with a trouble free camera. Edited June 2, 2024 by gweber
M8X2 Posted June 2, 2024 Share #266 Posted June 2, 2024 I had only one freeze with my M11 but one or two upside-down images pre-update. Zero issues since then but to be fair, haven't had the chance to use it that much.

All the best I should have separated my response you're both referring to into two separate posts. @Knorp, the first part of that post was not directed at you, and I'm sorry it appeared that way when reading it. The posts below are the kind of reports I don't immediately trust until I see others reporting the same. I have that right. I very rarely lurk in this forum and even more rarely post. Only today, after many months of owning the M11, have I encountered 3 consecutive freezes. This made me google for a way to downgrade to an earlier firmware where I did not encounter such a problem. I found out that such a process is not possible, and my best option, besides selling my camera out of frustration, is to report this bug. Hopefully, Leica will put their utmost effort into fixing this problem. If it’s not fixable even with the next firmware update, then, although it will be painful, I will have to get rid of this version of the M and perhaps upgrade to an M10/P/R 🙃 2

ryujignh Posted June 2, 2024 Share #273 Posted June 2, 2024 I had a second freeze after upgrading to 2.1.1. The same behavior that I posted yesterday and it's the same similar to other users cases posted lately. I took a few shots, then the shutter stopped responding. The weird thing is that the menu screen was still functioning, so I could play back..etc. However, the shutter remain not responsive, so I tried to turn off the camera, but it won't turn off. The screen went black, and the red indicator stayed on. As usual, I had to pull the battery to force restart again. This is a new issue that I encountered after upgrading to 2.1.1. I've never had the shutter become unresponsive with a previous firmware. It may be a new bug that Leica has introduced. 1

Are the upside down files the same size as the regular way up ones? Maybe not totally "cooked" by the processor? Yes I know that's quite a stupid theory, but are there more plausible ones? The files are not upside down on the camera, but on Photo Mechanic, which I use to browse the images. Files are all the same size. 34 minutes ago, hdmesa said: What a strange bug. At least the fault where occasional frames are sometimes overexposed seems to have been vanquished. Leica seem to be playing Whack A Mole with these firmware patches.

The thing is, I didn’t have this issue before (maybe once or twice, but nothing as frustrating as today’s). Now, with a supposedly perfect firmware, I got it. I already got a quote from MPB for a mere 5250 Euros. I’ll wait and see for the next few days. If this problem occurs multiple times per day again, then I’ll go that route 🤬
Edax Posted June 2, 2024 Share #279 Posted June 2, 2024 IMHO it is good practice to do a full reset of the camera after it encountered a freeze. During the 2.0.2 *file corruption* saga I saw weird things happen after freezes, things that did disappear after a full reset. Doing a full reset is not always convenient, I know, but chances are that it pays off. Also, check the SD card(s) after a freeze, on MacOS this can be performed with Disk Utility / First Aid. If there are errors found on it, well that would be interesting to know.

Updating user profiles too. Déjà vu on earlier firmware updates but it works for 2.1.1 too.
