Leica Boutique 'passers-by' will likely be impressed by the D-Lux 8's 'looks' and the Leica name. And established Leica enthusiasts may decide it's, " .... a Leica for my partner!" – but they'll also use it themselves.  I would not consider buying a Leica D Lux 8 myself; much prefer using my Leica CL.

I can see this being popular. Some of my favourite pictures were taken with my D-Lux 2 and the current generation of D-Lux will be much better than that in terms of image quality. I don’t have a problem with it being m4/3 and much of its target audience might not either. You can take excellent photographs with m4/3. As a travel/general purpose camera for those who want to do better than their smartphone but who can’t afford a Q3 and want a zoom rather than a fixed focal length on a Q3 or Fuji 100VI.

Unbelievable if it doesn't even have USB-c!  Let me guess..no charging unit in the box and overpriced made in China battery?

DPR writes that it has USB-C.

and a flash a bit of an anathema. Leica photography is all about using available light - isn't it?

Tell it to Bruce Gulden and many other photogs who are using flash on Leica cameras.

It just ... Leica has no good flash TTL protocol implemented and not too many are doing flash by now by any brand, because high ISO gives somewhat usable images. While even with working (non-Leica) TTL flash protocols photog has to put some effort to eliminate the shadows or be gifted enough to render with shadows not been a visual problem.

Of course they have a Leica, the camera & receipt will confirm.. Not everyone has unlimited disposable incomes.. A D-Lux8 might be the only new Leica they can afford... Go buy it - go use it - be happy.....  #1 Leica Snob...🤔

I think this is exactly for those WITH disposable income. 😂

I'm interested in the small flash for my Q3. Couldn't find it in the accessories tab on the Leica website. Does this come bundled with the camera or will this be available to purchase aftermarket?

Take a look at the Godox Jr.  It isn't much bigger that the little Leica flash.  I use one on my Q2 and it works great, and is only about $59.

Successful design, but the same internals as the predecessor. Only makes sense if you can't get a DLux7 yet (used still has decent price in germany).
Sony a7 had to give way due to the menu navigation. Then came a jump via the Fuji X100v to the Leica M8. The simplicity of the operation and the software were a reflection on photography. An M10 followed. Now I'm missing a small Leica to always carry around (jacket or trouser pocket compatible), APSC (4/3 would also be ok) with 35mm fixed focal length, fast autofocus and the option of easy manual setting and O/EVF. Don't need a flip screen. I would order it sight unseen. Have no income to waist, Leica is reataining value pretty good, espacially when you get a used one. At last you want to have fun taking the cam  in the hand. The best one is you have with you.

A disappointment for those of us who hoped for a significant advancement in the D-Lux 8 — such as an updated sensor, weather/dust sealing and a manual zoom. While there is a small improvement in that there are fewer buttons (especially the A-button), this is a mostly cosmetic update of this camera. I was disappointed by Leica’s abandonment of the CL and was hoping that there would be a significant upgrade in the D-Lux 8 that would make it a credible successor to the CL. That hasn’t happened.

According to DPR, D-Lux 8 has an updated viewfinder and rear LCD, as well as a USB-C port for charging.

Aps-c fixed 35mm 36mp decent evf with flip screen in a compact form, would nail it for me as a travel/always on me camera.

Alternatively, Leica could take the Panasonic S9, add a mechanical shutter and a hot shoe for an external evp option.

IQ IQ IQ - everything else is window dressing.. 🍻

My comment related to the claim that this was only a cosmetic update. No, IQ is not everything. Ergonomics matter a lot.

The m43 sensor has a pretty good IQ, and the lens, if the same as on the LX100, is also quite good. No, it does not play in the same league as Phase One backs with Rodenstock lenses, but it is much more convenient and user-friendly.

5 year old sensor = fail.

There really is no justification for that if true.

It is still as good as the latest m43 sensors (per P2P).

If you need technical IQ here is no reason to look at this or any other camera with m43 sensor.

Yet some of us have realized what image quality isn't just technicalities. But the content. To me if camera has no obvious mistakes in ergonomics and gives pleasant feeling it is the right tool.

Obviously this camera is 100 % windows dressing. Kind of good news they could work with China for improved design.  It looks just right. Good fashion accessory, to wear with joy and with joy in mind good pictures comes.

Depends on the user I suppose. Over 70=fail.

There is no newer 4/3rds sensor AFAIK, and I don't see anything wrong with the images it produces. They were pretty good five years ago...
