Issues with the firmware update on Leica M10

As a current M10-R user, I have kept the following records-

 

The firmware versions were released for the M10-R

10.20.23.49 (initial factory release)

10.20.27.20

20.20.47.37

30.22.11.52

30.22.23.34

 

 

What M10 details are engraved on the flash mount of your camera?

This is crazy. Contact Leica CS, there is something totally weird going on here,. In any case Leica should be able to install the proper firmare.

The steps you've taken should have worked.  If I remember correctly, I had trouble one time with an update and someone suggested downloading directly to the root directory of a clean formatted sd card

If you are really sure that you have a „simple“ M10, the Firmware 30.22.xxx is certainly and definetely wrong. For the M10 it is Leica M10 - Firmware 3.22.23.38. It starts with 3 not 30!!!

Though if your present firmware starts with „10“ your camera definetely has no firmware of a „simple“ M10.

Please do check again as well your camera model and your present firmware.

I tried to download the firmware for the m10 r and now the camera recognises the firmware and propose to update (I haven't updated yet)
 

So, the only explanation I can find is that the previous owner somehow installed a wrong firmware on this camera, I don't even understand how it is possible.

Since I bought in a shop,the camera has still a warranty. What would you advise? to update the m10-r firmware or to send it to the assistance?

The most logical explanation is that the camera is indeed an M10R and that someone replaced the flash shoe or possibly the top plate by an M10 one. What is the pixel size of an image?

This M10 with an M10R firmware is faulty so unless your dealer can provide the same with a proper M10 firmware,i would ask for a refund or a replacement.

It is not faulty - it cannot exist and work.

My advice is such a camera does not conform to the item ordered so unless the dealer can provide a proper M10 camera with a proper M10 firmware,i would ask for a refund or a replacement. I'm just a retired lawyer though...

That is legally true but it is wiser to figure it out. If the camera is in reality an M10R the OP has saved a considerable amount of money.

Which is technically between a miracle and impossible. Hence my advice to check the camera output to determine the type. If a miracle, it would be easily sorted by Leica.

Does the camera work at all, can you take photos with it? (You should not be able to do so but expect that a "simple" M10 with M10-R firmware was completely bricked).

You said you made a reset of the camera but it didn't work. What happened exactly when you made the reset?

I meant that the update didn't work despite I reset the camera. If I make the reset the camera ask me if I want to keep the user profiles and then it launches the reset normally. 
Something that I noticed that didn't work is the connection with the App Leica Fotos, there's only a WLAN option and if I try to click on it there's no pairing with my phone. that's why I wanted to update the firmware.
Also there's the GPS option which is also greyed out..
A part from that the camera works normally, when I bought it I didn't realise that the firmware wasn't the right one

You might try to install a previous firmware for the M10 and if this works upgrade to the last one:
