So far so good.

If all this "update" seems to do is mess with the counter,(don't care) I think I'll skip it.  I had no previous firmware problems that needed to be addressed.  Come back when you either, a) speed up the autofocus or b) help the tracking performance.  I'm sure there are other useful bits that could be tweaked, but those are my choices.

Pretty much happy with it from the start.

I believe the counter will not be reset if you have one image saved while updating firmware. It did not reset the counter on mine. Once the camera resets, it sees the previous image and continues numbering from there.

That makes sense. I had pictures on my card and the numbering was not reset.

I share the same sentiment; I believe there are plenty of headroom to tweak the autofocusing and tracking mechanics of this system. Leica should prioritize this in their next major update as it will please the good majority.

I was expecting something a little bit more substantial.  This was more of a bit of clean-up.  Oh well, hope springs eternal.

Why are people obsessed with the image counter… I’m just curious. 
 

I was hoping for a autofocus improvement but I guess we’ll have to wait.

You and I both, I was excited to see an update when I launched the Fotos app yesterday, but underwhelmed when I saw what the update was for. I get it, cleaning up bugs and issues that will eventually improve our overall experience, but man the focusing needs some TLC.

You are not alone, a lot of folks were hoping for a autofocus improvements. Camera is still new they can surprise us just like how Hasselblad introduce face detection focusing on their X2D.

I believe all the autofocus software is down to Panasonic. It’s already in the SL3, and Panasonic S5II as well as the Q3. I suspect that version 3.0 is when we will see it on the Q3.

I hope you are right, I'm not expecting Sony level improvements, but I will take what I can.

duplicate file names for example. and I for one like to know the „odometer“ of my camera. Not that it matters but just out of curiosity. 
 

i too am patiently waiting for Eye AF to get better and the camera to receive some control function upgrades. How the Fn buttons are implemented with their multi option drop down that alter your camera set up every time you change a setting doesn’t make sense to me. I want to have „master“ functions that are set as default and then optional functions that I can activate by holding the Fn button. But the Fn button needs to revert to the master function I set for the profile once the camera switches off or I took the shot. Otherwise this makes no sense. I never know how the camera is going to behave when I pick it up after a long time. Frustrating.

Possibly, but only because the SL3 was launched a few months after the Q3 and they have made some changes. I suspect that the sensor and processor are likely identical though, so both will get updates that will align autofocus, bearing in mind different lenses will make a difference.

I will recommend a SD card for the update rather than Fotos, especially if you wish to retain your custom profiles. 

I did the update yesterday and did not have any issues. 

But still not clear what aspects of improvement are offered in this latest update. 

There is no accompanying information on the Leica website

The update via Fotos retains custom profiles. Select 'Yes' when promoted to save your profiles and then manually restore them after the update. It would be nice if the restore happened automatically but at present it doesn't.

I have both. Mostly depends on the lens. I cannot see real differences using a 75 APO ora a 24-70 Vario Elmarit.
