After the freeze

Just when I thought it was safe to stop worrying about freezes, two new M11 concerns have emerged. The first is the bc battery warning coming on when the battery has plenty of charge, say 70%. It happened two or three times during a shoot for a client and gave me quite a fright. The second issue is of more concern.  I take a photograph, review it on the screen, resume shooting, whereupon the shutter won't fire, an sd card warning appears and later I find the previously viewed image has disappeared from the card. Having made my way through several of the well known sd card brands, I'm now using Lexar 1800x. Am I alone?

In Germany we have the truism (Binsenweisheit) from football: "After the game is before the game" (nach dem Spiel ist vor dem Spiel). So here it is: After the freeze - is before the freeze.

We must wait, they work on the problem ...

No battery issue here, but several times the picture before freezze is not registered. So I wait for the minute  before reinserting the battrey and the open time till Leica achieves the solution to the software errors...

...assuming (and hoping) that it's just a software and not a hardware issue...

Lexar card quality and durability have gone down substantially in recent years. Many experienced Leica users here recommend Kingston and SanDisk Extreme.

The card I use at the moment is a SanDisk Extreme pro 95MB/s V30  64GB. 

No more no less issue with Lexar pro 280MB/s V60  64GB. 

Not really convinced the card is the weak link, or a particuliar card.

I don't have an M11, but with my M-P 240 I had nothing but grief with Lexar SD cards.  20% or so of my files would be corrupted with Lexar SD cards.  Got rid of them all and switched to SanDisk cards.  Problem solved.

I've never had any problems with the many SanDisk cards I've used. Based on the glowing comments about Kingston cards, I just ordered one of their 128 GB cards to use in the Q3 I just purchased.

Sandisk it is then. I also tried Angel Bird, images that looked fine in camera proved to be corrupted once they were imported into Lightroom. At this rate I might end up spending as much on sd cards as I did on the camera.

As the camera has no video, there is an opportunity to save money and maybe even problems by using smaller cards.

how are you getting the images from the card to the computer? cable or card reader can be the problem.

Sandisk used to be good for many years, but now that it is owned by WestenDigital the problem with SSD and memory cards is real.

Lexar was a failing company, nobody was buying them out, Prograde got all the manufacturing and made a new company out of it.

Some years later some other company revived from the ashes LEXAR. Lexar has the most counterfeited cards on the market, especially on Amazon. You may think you buy a 128GB card and it is really 16GB.

I have used Prograde 256GB on many cameras over the last 5 years, with no issues.

What happens if you use the internal memory instead? Does it still do it?

I've used fast Angel Bird 300 V90 cards in both M11 Mono and Q3, and not had a single failure or corrupt file.

That's encouraging, my problems have occurred when using the V60 cards

The internal memory seems to be fine. I suppose I could save to the internal memory and copy files onto an SD at a later date, but I haven't yet given up using the SD.

All good observations. Thank you.  I usually pop the sd card straight into the sd slot on my Mac, so no leads involved. The issue of counterfeit cards never occurred to me, I don't buy from Amazon, I live in a city and usually  buy my cards from a camera dealer. I will take a look at Prograde.
