Because I suddenly had to take someone to the ER (came out well), I found myself with my only camera my iPhone14 max and took this photo.

Not taken with my Leica, so delete if desired.

Taken with iPhone while holding eclipse viewing glasses over lens.

That's about the most it covered in my area.

For once... `and no precedent.

In your case the clouds helped make a very nice image.

There are two smartphone photos in this thread. Due to the rarity of the event, they have been allowed, but further non-Leica images will be deleted without notice.

Vlux5.  We had about an 85% eclipse, and we had moderate cloud cover.

From my Buffalo backyard through heavy clouds. Leica SL2-S attached to a small (105mm aperture, 600mm focal length) telescope. No filter used during totality other than the clouds.

I've collected ten eclipse images captured through the clouds from my Buffalo backyard in a new gallery on my website. All images captured with an SL2-S attached to a small (4" -  600mm FL) refracting telescope.

Though not visible directly, the sun's corona illuminated the passing clouds creating some nice variations over the course of totality. I especially like the second image (included). The Cheshire smile of the returning sun empties into the magenta hue of ionized hydrogen and the triangular prominence - so stunning during totality - is still visible against the cloudy foreground just below the ring of sunlight.

Taken with a Leica M10 and an Astro-Physics 95mm f/6.65 telescope, north of Montpelier, VT. ISO 100, 5-stops bracketing with speeds from 2000 down to 125. The two landscape frames are from a GoPro Timelapse that show the before and during . It was a magnificent sight!

Those solar flairs are amazing.  I had a pair of 10X Zeiss binoculars on hand to view it during totality.  Between juggling the eclipse glasses, my Leica, and passing the binoculars back and forth with my girlfriend, there was a lot going on in the few minutes of totality. I wish it would have lasted longer, but feel very fortunate to have experienced it.  Right when the sun started peeking back out behind the moon a bird in the tree above me gave out its morning song.  Then all the birds in the woods surrounding the lake in the Adirondacks started singing like it was 6am as we hiked back to our car.

Very well done!

How did you attach your M10 to your scope?

Cheers, Allan

I simply used a Leica M T-ring, connected to a couple of extension tubes.
