Because there is a temporary shortage of batteries in USA and it's the usual end of the world panic. Nothing new. The batteries will surely come, B&H is aware of the situation and so are many other dealers. It clearly says back ordered and not discontinued in the description - B&H would be the first to write it if the item goes out of production. Remember, 5 years after launch spare parts should be guaranteed. The Leica M10-R was announced in July 2020 so worst case scenario there should be at least 10 months of manufacturing leeway (surely it will be some years more).

I’m fairly sure they will com, however, six months is a long time for no or limited availability.

As to the chicken, well, my guess he was running from the hounds.

….so I have no personal experience other than running some quick google queries and checking the BH app. However, if it is so easy to get replacement batteries for the M10, then why is this thread so long?

Because their search strategies are limited like yours.  I found one in 10 minutes… see above… the country has many dealers besides the major outlets. The major outlets will eventually stock up, just as they do after people whine here about camera and lens waiting lists that persist for over a year.

No, don’t accept that. Where there’s smoke, there’s (usually) fire. You can present one or two cases to the contrary but BH and Leica stores are the best examples of market availability.

Regardless, I’m not at all interested in getting into a flame war with someone I don’t know and don’t care about regarding a subject that doesn’t affect me so this will be my last post in this thread. Feel free to flame at will and call my search and other actions “limited.”

Flame war? No thanks, just a simple factual statement. Checking B&H and doing “some quick Google queries” is indeed a limited search. There is a market shortage… never said otherwise… but there is also a simple solution for anyone who is in immediate need, as I discussed above.  Just call some small dealers, conveniently listed on the Leica site. Worked for me in 10 minutes; battery sent UPS to me in 2 days.

Supply shortages are common at Leica, and in general since Covid. I suspect this one will resolve at some point. In the meantime, there are batteries to be found with a targeted search; just as there was with year long wait lists at B&H and other major dealers for some initial M body/lens releases, while some smaller independent dealers had them immediately available. Others have thanked me for the advice.

But nice to know that you don’t care about me. Thanks for sharing.

Jeff

quick search: 15 seconds

1) Leica store: Not available

2) Dealer (next in the Google listing): Available

This was my search: Buy M10 battery (I put it in in German) 😇

I must be very clever . . . Probably just lucky?

As has been said over and over in this thread, EU is easy to find one, but the rest of the world is out.

Now a wonderful technical museum artifact. Who still knows the Reverse Polish notation today? I've just taken mine out of the drawer again. I should dust it off again. And, of course, batteries are still available.

My HP32SII from 1990 is still my daily companion on my desk at work.

I’m no maths whiz, but I love RPN and those amazing tactile HP buttons ❤️

I bought an M10 Monochrom Wetzlar edition camera earlier this year. It came in the original packaging with all the standars accessories and documents including the battery which charges fully and works fine. However these are not long life batteries so I bought a second. That one also works fine but since then my attempt to find a third OEM has been frustrating. Nobody had one in stock. I got on several waiting lists and eventually two arrived from different dealers in sealed original packaging. Both have failed to charge properly and if left in the charger long enough the lights on the charger both flash rapidly. When placed in the camera nothing at all happens. I read somewhere that it may be a chip issue. I returned one today. The other will go back as soon as I can a return authorization. For $200 I expect a working battery!

There is no battery CRISIS, such terms are spreading unnecessary panic and FUD. There is a SHORTAGE in USA ONLY. Leica knows USA consists of only 5% of the world population and is seemingly in no hurry. No idea why this dilatory approach from their side but it HAS HAPPENED BEFORE and everything was all right in the end. We also have to consider that M10-R is as new as mid-2021 (black paint version) and five years have to pass before discontinuation of parts, so we are still good for a while.

Maybe 5% but the third most populated in the world.

China beats you four fold.

Well, there's no batteries in China either (or at least Hong Kong). It's unacceptable. The US may be only 5% of the world population, but we are probably the biggest market for Leica outside of the EU (if not even bigger than the EU). But Al, it's okay, you can stop making excuses for Leica. We all love the brand nonetheless (my daughter is named Leica),  but just like some dear family members, we can also become frustrated with them.

You are correct. More Leica equipment is sold here than any one country. If you can’t find Leica equipment in the U.S. it’s probably because it’s sold out.
