Too bad i'm retired,i would gladly be your opponent. With this thread in my exhibits and the success of the M11 (link), i would defend the case pro bono 😄

Surely it doesn't matter whether the broader product is fit for purpose, rather the individual item purchased, it is a camera, it should reliably capture images, it should do that especially well and without significant issue at £8,000.

Mine has none, so i would bring it before the Court 😄

Maybe you could arrange to temporarily swap cameras with someone here experiencing freezes to see if their camera works perfectly in your hands, and if your camera develops freezes in theirs.

If you need some sort of magic jujitsu to use a product, jujitsu that is not described and cannot be described in the manual, or the disabling of 'features' which are described (as recommended by a myriad of users rather than manufacturer, all with varying levels of success), you have created an unreliable product, not fit for the purpose for which is was intended.

Lucky you'll be doing it pro bono as I don't think you'll be winning costs 🤣

Also, as a fellow user, I'd have rather hoped you'd have been on the side of the users who'd like a reliable product, come to the light... 🤣

As you can see in this thread i'm not alone and i try my best to help when i can but you're asking too much. If i had the issues some of us are complaining about here i would ask for a refund or a replacement.

Well you remember perhaps my position in this matter. I did not change since this post. I have posted the tips i use for what it's worth ad i'm glad to help when i can but my own camera is perfectly reliable so the only advice i can give my fellow users is to ask for a refund or a replacement if they don't want to wait for the next firmware update, assuming it is of any help to them.

It was a hypothetical proposition, as your court case, and not to be taken literally. But it would be interesting to see results of multiple such switches, wouldn’t it?

FWIW (not much), I’m not an M11 owner, nor do I have any desire for one, and haven’t experienced any freezes since M8.2 days (due to a bad battery), also using M9M, M240, M10, M10-R and M10M.  I’ve also never used a computer-based formatter, simply formatting in camera after each card download.  And, yes, I would have my dealer provide exchange or refund for any faulty camera.

I'm in the "mostly fine" category - as I did have one freeze, and one corrupt file incident. However - I shoot with mine daily, and so I have become pretty confident that it is going to work when I need it to. I now write the files to both internal and external SD in camera - and so far no more issues or warnings. The one freeze I had was immediately rectified by simply shutting off the camera and turning it back on again - and that was it!

Just as a yardstick - I updated all of my Nikon gear last year to the Z system (mirrorless) and I hate it. You want some frustration? These things are so complicated and so full of menu options etc that actually getting anything done with them is a real pain. Every time I turn on the camera something in the settings has changed (how?) and now I have to go find out where it is to fix it.

I truly appreciate the simplicity of the digital Leica. It doesn't do what the Z system does - but what it does do is so much more satisfying...

I have shot digital camera since my first 400K pixel Olympus. It and the next model which was 2MP If I recall are the only digital camera I have owned that never froze or had operational quirks. I shot Nikon D's for a number of years and switched to Fuji.  They all had issues ranging from corrupt files to freezing to overheating. Most recently Fujis had overheating problems in video and freezing in still. Having to pull a battery occasionally seems the norm to me. I had to pull the battery on my m10 in the few months I owned it and even the Q2 on several occasions. I find my M11 to be the most trouble free when I use it as a camera. forgetting to disconnect from my iPad seems to cause problems the most.

One issue aside from all others is the terribly hot shoe! I don't care about losing the stupid cover but ty putting any flash on it and see how it wobbles around! same issue on my m10 also. oddly not on the Q2... I contacted leica Wetzlar and they sent me to leica USA where the candle interest died. seems like Leica USA became a black hole one they realized I want looking to just send it in for service.

I am curious to know just how many M11 leica sold and how many different folk have complained about issues.?

The hot shoe is a known issue - the springs in there get bent and become loose. You can tighten them up again using a flat blade, by just pushing them back up.

nope.. they are not strong enough no matter how you bend them to put a SF60 on the camera. Anything that is a tight fit seems to bend them and make the hotshoe attachments loose! I can bend them and put my visoflex or thumb grip in one time and mySf 60 is back to flopping around.   It's my one disappointment in Leica. SF C1 and a flash bracket is the only  workaround I see

Hello, I bought my M11 last November and taken a few thousands images troubles free up to now.

According to the information on the box/QC the camera was manufactured in May 22, until now I updated the firmware twice and had no problems whatsoever.

Same here (May 2022) but i did not know that the hotshoe was a known issue. Should be a problem for Visoflex users then. Works as intended on my M8.2, M11, M240 and digital CL.

visoflex isnt a problem for me. but the sf60 rocks very badly in the socket.  sf26 does but not as bad.

I think the visoflex extends further into the contacts at the end of the socket and doesn't have the leverage the flashes have either.

I have no experience with the SF-60 but my SF-26 works fine with no wobble at all. I seem to recall posts from colleagues complaining about it but i don't remember why. Again the M11? 🙄

If I bend the springs the sf26 will have very little wobble. It's not unique to the M11 tho, it happened on my M10 as well. I see people complain about losing the little covers and I put a brass cover on the M10 and it just made it worse for thee other peripherals.

Thinking back I seem to  recall similar issues on Nikon till they went back to clamp from just a pin.

I had a trouble free m11-p since december. No freezes. But now i have a weird issue with the shutter button.
I need to press it hard before the camera fires. I half press it, then press harder and i hear a soft click but the camera doesnt trigger.
When I then press harder it fires. Anyone else experienced this problem before?

No idea sorry. Do you experience the same problem in silent mode (electronic shutter)? If the camera works normally in this mode, there is perhaps no mechanical cause in play so you could wish to do a camera reset but it's just a guess on my part.

There were some problems similar to yours posted in the m10 section.  Maybe reviewing this will help with your m11.
