Cosmetic not optical question about Summicron-M 50mm v.4

Along with some ASPH generation lenses from 21mm through to 50mm that have been in my use for some time, I recently picked up a fine, well looked after early example of the version 4 Summicron-M 35mm (serial no. 335----) with the wording LEITZ LENS MADE IN CANADA SUMMICRON-M 1:2 / 35 around the circumference of the front element. It is for my black M4-P of similar vintage and is rapidly becoming a  favourite in use for its compactness and unobtrusiveness in use.

Now I am interested to find a same-style 50mm v.4 to use alongside it but I have only ever seen or owned examples that are from later production runs from Germany, as also happened with the 35s.  Can anyone tell me if early v.4 Summicron 50s were ever manufactured in Canada? Ideally I am hoping for one that would sport the wording LEITZ LENS MADE IN CANADA SUMMICRON-M 1:2 / 50 and presumably take the 585 metal lens hood.

This is a purely cosmetic question as any real or debated optical differences over the long production run of  Summicron v.4s in terms of coatings, optics or country of manufacture are not factors in my search.  Many thanks for any information anyone can provide.

I have one from 1979 that says "LENS MADE IN CANADA"
You can PM me if you want.

Hi Dirk, thank you for your information. Though I have to say I am not hoping to buy one for a while I'd be interested if you have a moment to confirm whether it just says LENS MADE IN CANADA or, like my 35/2, LEITZ LENS MADE IN CANADA. And if this is written around the front lens (rather than on the side of the barrel etc).

Maybe this will help. The serial is written on the side, unlike most M lenses of that time.

It was my understanding that MOST of them were. Perhaps I am mistaken?

How early is 'Early'? My v4 (3 359 XXX) is Canadian and dates to 1985. I can't physically check the exact wording ATM as it is out on loan but I will see if I have a snap somewhere...

Philip.

Thank you for going to this trouble and I'm sorry not to have seen this till today. Yes, that definitely helps: it is exactly parallel with the style on my Summicron v4 35mm. Same writing round the front ring (except for 50 in place of 35) and serial number if like mine is almost hidden at the bottom.  Useful info so I know what to look for if I decide to get one. I already have a great v5 50 (shame no tab but otherwise nice esp. with built in hood)  so it's not really needed!

Thank you; I am sure you are right. It was just that I hadn't till recently joining this forum seen any v4s with Canada on them. And by early I was referring to serial nos. in the range of yours — trying to get a close date match to my v4 35mm which is 3 355 ---.  So no need to send a snap but if you have time when you get it back a snap then perhaps of the side as well as the front of the lens would be great. I see that dpitt has the tiger paw tab whereas my 35 has the slim concave grip with the long base they used (till the Elmarit 28mm E46 came in and then the ASPHs with their current modern concave tab and no base).

My early Canadian Summicron 50/2 v4 from 1979 is like that but it has plastic parts the same way as the early Canadian Summicron 35/2 v4. Reason why i prefer later German copies of both lenses. I guess you know this presence of plastic parts already. Otherwise i'll post a video about them if you wish.
