I would put a thumb grip on virtually any camera I owned, other than a small point & shoot.  Even cameras with built in or added on hand grips benefit greatly in terms of holdability by adding the thumb grip. I think the Thumbs Up is one of the best camera accessories ever made. After Tim Isaak invented and marketed them for the M8, I bought two and immediately told him I'd never again use a camera without one.

I know everyone has their preferences.  So, this is just my own preference.  I'm not too fond of the modern camera design with big hand grips!  I think Leica and other manufacturers that produce sleek-looking cameras are fantastic.  It harkens back to the classic film cameras of the yesteryears.  I always held my camera with both hands as I was taught as a child.  Also, I hate auto-focus.  I grew up using manual focus (my favorite is Split Image Finder), and I really think the classic manual-focus cameras made the photographer slow down and think before clicking the shutter.  I hated it when they first introduced the autofocus, and I still don't like it.  Of course, you also had a roll with a limited film count.  So, you have to be careful before you take your picture.  Think of your composition, perspectives, exposure, lighting, etc.  You are not just clicking your shutters, but you are expressing your artistic creativity.  Just my own perspective.

Congratulations!  You won't regret the decision.  I just did a quick test with my XT-5 with 18mm 1.4 and Q3, and I prefer Q3's image quality  as well as its ergonomics and functionality.  All in all, a clear winner!  You will be happy with the Q3.  Now the waiting game begins!

I don't have the Q3 in my hands yet.... I was only looking at the X100VI due to cost of Q3.  I thought the VI was much smaller but really isn't and if you put on the wide angle adapter which I immediately would, it isn't any smaller.   Then you have to pay over MSRP by at least 50% to get it now, which puts it much closer to the Q3.  Then the Q3 IP rating was a big consideration over "weather resistant" which, to me, is almost meaningless.  Then you have to take into account all of the facts of what the Q3 has over the VI, not opinions, and I could see the cost gap narrowing as you are getting what you pay for.  I see a lot of comments like if the weather is bad, raining, etc I would leave behind the Q3 and take the VI due to cost.  I was a newspaper photographer, albeit long ago, but I probably have a different view on this.  My gear were tools, I took it into tornadoes, sports in all manner of bad weather and even into a burning house once on a training exercise with a fire department.  In all of that, even that long ago, I had well over $10K-$15K in gear with me that I paid for and at a time when I really could not "afford" it but had to have it.  My dear wife pointed out there was a time when I wouldn't have batted an eye at the cost for the best of what I wanted in a camera so I ordered the Q3.  Now that I can afford it I will take it in the rain or whatever else as that's how you should be able to use a $6K camera in my opinion and I am counting on it.  My Canon gear never failed me once and I expect Leica to be at least as good.  Just some thoughts for anybody else also on the fence.

Thank you for the response! It is between the Q3 and the a7CR for me. Surprisingly, the frictionless experience I've had using the Leica Fotos transfer app might push me towards the Q3.

Q3 is sexier for sure. The a7cR is a technical marvel and there are so many features that trounce any camera I've used before. But I'm having a hard time enjoying it. It's weird. When I walk out the door I'd rather have a Q in my bag.

All matter of perspective.  

Just for reference, Lecia M11 + 28mm 2.0 Summicron cost little more than $14,000.  So, $6000 seems like a bargain!!!

Don't get me wrong...I've been a Leica user (both film, digital, rangefinder and SLR) since the early 80's...they are great cameras and I can afford them.

I just laugh at the people who have drunk the kool-aid and seem to feel that Leica's are handed down from God.

Lots of great cameras out there for less money.

I understand.  I'll be the first to admit Leica is not cheap, but what other choices do we have if we want certain features and image quality . .  .  I know Nikon is making good strides - I heard a lot of great things about Nikon Zf with manual focus lenses such as Voigtlander, and it won't cost anywhere near $6000.  Unfortunately, given my preference, my choices are somewhat limited!

I uploaded some random photos from my last trip to Berlin and Munchen in order to see my photographic style. All photos are Screenshots from JPEG and unedited striaght from camera. All photos are from my small and lovely Ricoh GRII. Its very discreet and i can be invisible in a way. I never used XT5 for street photography! 

Maybe i am asking my self i have all i need Ricoh GR II and XT5 and why go to buy a camera 6.000$ in order to have more sharp, better photos when my project is not to print in big dimensions 70 x100cm but print books with my photos 20x30cm or sell them via my website. Its more difficult and rude to shot with a bigger camera Leica q3 30cm from faces.

What your opinion? About my photos and my dilemma for the new camera?

 

They look great to me. 

One thing I might suggest if you still can't decide about the Q3 is to go to the Q3 Images section and look from start to finish. I realize I'm just viewing low res images on a web forum, but I can't recall seeing a collection of photos anywhere that demonstrate such phenomenal quality.
