For me, in order not to lose frames, at the moment the only reliable way is to shoot on the internal memory. After the internal memory is full, I copy its contents to the SD card using the appropriate menu item. Then I format the internal memory and continue shooting.

Why not "DNG +JPEG first on IN" if i may ask?

because this way I won't know when the internal memory is full

You will if your camera works as expected. It should warn you this way then:

Quote

Internal memory full
All following data will be written on the external SD card

I haven’t had an issue with SD cards since I bought my M11.

I also hadn’t had an issue with the latest firmware either, until today. All of a sudden the same SD card I’ve been using keeps throwing “SD card error.”

There’s still 90GB free on the card, no idea what’s going on…

What are the specs of your SD card?

Has anyone been able to retrieve the lost images? 2 weeks in Burgundy and I have lost all the photos including snow which is now rare for the region!

I purchased and use ISOBUSTER, for all my storage device issues.  https://www.isobuster.com/

Recently used it to recover a DNG that I had intentionally deleted “in camera on SD card” , and later decided I wanted the DNG.

ISObuster is the fastest recovery tool I’ve used in 40years of working with such tools.

For the record, the only affiliation I have with ISObuster, is that I’m a very satisfied customer.

Cards do go bad, often without warning.  After extracting whatever images I can usually toss the card.  I may try a low level format, first.  I've tossed 3 or 4 cards in the last 10-12 years.  Interesting to note that most of those were tossed shortly after purchase.  Bathtub curve?

In my admittedly positive experience, SD cards are the only culprit for freezes, if any. My first SD card for M11, a 64GB Sony "Tough" card, caused freezes when i bought the camera in May 2022. I tossed the Sony card then and reverted to my usual Sandisk cards with no issues whatsoever since firmware 1.6.1. Funnily enough i've been given another 64GB Sony Tough card for Xmas 2023. I planned to sell it or to use it with other cameras but curiosity was too strong so after 2 months in a drawer i've just inserted the Sony card in my M11 and formatted it with the camera. First shots, total success. The card seems even more responsive than my fastest Sandisk but i did no metering TBH. I keep the Sony card in the camera for now and will report if anything interesting happens.

Your post got me to run a few tests on my M11M....

I have 2 of the exact same model/size Sony TOUGH cards that worked flawlessly on a SL2 and Canon R5. But consistently locked up my M10M when I had it. When I got my M11M, the camera froze up with this Sony card, so I switched to a non-TOUGH version and a ProGrade branded one without issue.

Just reformatted the Sony SF-G64T and tried it out in the M11M:

  • Second exposure - "Please Wait..." when attempting to review playback. Camera freeze. Restarted the camera and the second exposure never wrote to disk.
  • Exposures three and on.... all good.

I wasn't expecting this card to work, but seems to be working better than expected. I, too, will try using this card for a while and report back.

I am using SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO carte SDXC jusqu'à 300 Mo/s UHS-II Class 10 U3 V90 and it works flawlessly. I am first loading the SD card en then the internal memory of 64Gb. I am only producing DNG files, as I am managing them in lightroom.

I have 2 m11 cameras and two exactly the same SD cards. On average, 1 of the 50 files is unreadable

Pretty appalling how bad their firmware seems to be with SD cards. I imagine it’s the source of all the crashing issues…

Leica needs to start delivering firmware worthy of the cost of their cameras. I’ve shot dozens of much cheaper digital cameras over the last decade and I’ve never had a single issue with Canon, Sony or Fuji.

I would have said the same 2 years ago when i got freezes with a Sony "Tough" card, or one year ago with a Sandisk UHS2 card. Under the current 2.0.2 firmware, all my cards work perfectly so far (detail below). I did format them, at least once, with SD Card Formatter though.
• UHS1 Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mb/s (64gb)
• UHS1 Sandisk Extreme Pro 170mb/s (256gb)
• UHS2 Sandisk Extreme Pro 300mb/s (64gb)
• UHS2 Sony Tough 300mb/s (64gb)

You have UHS1 cards among your cards as well. I do too without any problems. The M11 issues must be very complex and hidden somewhere in the software otherwise it would have been resolved a long time ago. I always wonder why not all useres of the 11 model face the identic problems. I am happy to belong to the group of users that is free of any problems. I got my M11 within 2 weeks after its launch.
