So that little bugfix took over a year - to a bug introduced by another firmware... Leica, I am not impressed here... But anyway. If someone here are installing it - let us know if the camera still works fine in the weeks to come. I will not be beta testing again but hopefully others will.

Wasn't a bug, they intentionally broke (repurposed) the joystick push to zoom function because they thought no one was using it. It probably took so long to fix because they had to undo it in a way that didn't break the new features that stole the use of the joystick push.

Leica SL2/SL2-S 6.1.0

Anyone know when it will be available?

Someone said there will be a Q3 FW on Thursday. Guess we will see tomorrow if that comes along with FW for all the other cameras that Leica Rumors said was coming.

But it did work with any other adapter. Like on the Urth Minolta MD to L adapter. Only the L lenses or the Leica adapter lost the feature...

They probably didn't realize they left it working for dummy adapters. At least it's fixed now.

I disagree, the SL3 came out about the same time and it had this function working just like you get on the SL2 now.

It was a bug with inconsistent results with different adapters.

I can see your point of view, but you also have to remember Leica admitted they were surprised that users missed the feature. That means they knew they were taking it away. I think they just didn't realize they didn't fully remove the function because in true Leica form, they only were testing it with the Leica adapter.

With regard to SL3, we can't assume anything from that. Could be the firmware engineers already knew they needed to add back the function (the explanation being that before the release of the SL2/S firmware that broke magnification with the Leica adapter, they knew they were taking magnification away – but they decided they would keep all the functions for the SL3 since they were writing that code from scratch).

that is an assumption that they test only a Leica adapter.
Leica has the option for lenses that have no data, Cinema lenses and Leica adapter for PL worked just fine

Maybe you give them too much credit for being visioners? It took them a year to make the change, even when they knew what the solution was.

Fair enough. Either way, they knew the functionality was broken because they said they didn't think anyone would miss the feature. So in the context of it being a bug, they would have released the last firmware being aware of it.

Like all of you, I was very excited to finally install this firmware update. I'd been using a cheap L-to-R adapter as a workaround and was looking forward to going back to the solid Leica-branded unit. I'll say, this update was a mixed bag, and I would even suggest people do not download and install 6.1.0 if they are satisfied with the current workaround.

Why? Unlike the old SL Typ 601, the new joystick magnification only magnifies in, it will not "double click" to zoom out. So you have to half press the shutter to zoom out. Unlike on the previous firmware, they have made sure to adopt this behavior for all adapters, not just the in-house adapters. Is this a huge deal? Maybe not, but I can't help but be frustrated that they didn't completely solve the problem and instead made it worse for those who just want the behavior to be what it used to be. Click in, click out—simple.

Is there a German translation for "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..."? Who knows — guess I'll see you guys here in a year to see if they've actually solved it...

I think this is how it worked before with the 2-S - press joystick to magnify then half-press shutter button to go back to normal size. It is a bit of a pain but I have pretty much reprogrammed the fingers to do it so I will probably update to 6.1 (having skipped 6.0).

I didn’t update my SL2-S firmware from 5.2.0 to 6.0.0 and so I retained the original M/F zoom function for my M lenses on the joystick. My SL2-S, with the old firmware, does not have the ability to “double-click to zoom out”. I’ve always had to half press the shutter release in order to do that. One click zooms in fully. If I want a graduated zoom, I use the rear wheel. Perfect for me, so I’m glad that the original SL2-S M/F functionality is restored. I don’t believe that the new firmware is at fault in this respect. I’ll still wait a few weeks (as I always do) though, to see if anyone reports further bugs or problems.
