Leica M11 / M11-M / M11-P: Firmware Update v.2.0.2

It took a long time to connect from the app and I restarted the app a couple of times then it ran very quickly.

I could have waited for the download, but since the camera is new I wanted to push it and see if it did what it was supposed to do.

I have not had a chance to shoot much since the update but I have an even tomorrow and my wife's birthday Friday so will figure out.

He updated from Fotos.  So did I.  Couldn't get it to work with firmware downloaded to the SD card.  I think that file must be bad.

You may wish to try the link below. Allows to download a file named "leica_m11_v2.0.2.fw" which worked fine on SD card for me.

That is the one I used.  This morning,  EST,  It did not work,  wouldn't start.  I sent a batsignal to the forum admins, haven't heard anything.  I hope it gets fixed and it will probably be silently done.  But my suspicion is that all of the happy users on this thread were either M11 owners or M11-P using Fotos.  That's why I was asking.

On the German forum there also appear to be some complaints about the downloadable firmware upgrade for the M11-P

No, he (me!) updated using sd card method, with the dowloaded leica_m11-p_v2.0.2.fw file. Early morning yesterday...

Upload via FOTOs worked fine for both M11 and M11M (have to wait a bit with the red light flashing for the restart which was momentarily worrying).  Took about 400 shots on M11, no freezes at all where before it had been freezing on average every 50-70 shots.  Had been frustrated that 2.0.1 appeared to have introduced freezes to my previously fine M11s  - am optimistic they have fixed it with .02, restoring both camera reliability and confidence in Leica s/w and f/w.   🤞

Yet again a firmware update makes me feel like a fool.

Or perhaps simply confirms the fact.

Anyway, having followed Leica's instructions to the letter, the camera (M11) correctly shows the current firmware as 2.0.1 but gives no option to update the firmware (Firmware Update is greyed out.)

I've checked everything I can, having inserted the memory card with nothing on it but the update.

Any advice anyone please?

Thank you.

If it is correct that for the 3 M11 versions (Standard, Mono, Pro) they compiled 3 dedicated versions of firmware. It is strange to see that all version has the same version number. 2 options: Same firmware => no need to have different downloads // dfferent "versions" => difference should be evident!

In case it were a card issue, you may wish to format yours with the free SD Card Formatter. A mere "Quick format" should suffice to begin with. No need to reformat the card in the camera.

Many thanks for that.

Through no fault of yours I'm now tearing my hair out again.

I've installed the formatter which works a treat. Thanks again for that.

I've put the downloaded update on the formatted memory card, put it in the camera, updated it in camera all as per Leica's instructions, (no sub-directories etc.) and it it informed me the update was complete.

And now when I start up the camera it is still showing version 2.0.1

I've tried this four times now and am about to throw the camera in the bin. (Not literally!) Maybe Leica really doesn't like me. 😞

It is important to format the memory card once more after completing the firmware process.

Because I wanted to spice up my life a little, I did the following:

(1) turned on my camera

(2) accessed the Fotos app on my phone

(3) clicked on "download update" on the phone

(4) ran the update - then the camera closed the shutter like it was being powered down

(5) turned the camera off and on again, and viola, 2.0.2

(6) went so smoothly, I had to dig into the menu to see if I could turn off dust protection and then turn it back on again.

I've never done an update from Fotos before. It worked perfectly.

Now: is it time to set up a user profile? I don't know, it's kinda fun shooting an M11 like I'm in the movie Groundhog's Day. Keeps you on your toes.

Yes, thank you. But I've done that too.

Still stuck on v 2.0.1

I'm going to give the whole process one more try then give up because I don't know what I can do differently.
