You export FROM the card which is locked for incoming traffic, I.e. the mess that computers send back. You cannot use a locked card in the camera. I don’t see how a locked card would prevent you from seeing and downloading your images, even with the lock broken. The lock changes your card into read-only memory.

I export from the internal memory to the SD card. Not sure how this could work if the card is locked but i'm no techie

That would be impossible on a locked card. The card should be locked when inserted into the reader, not in the camera.
