see 2 posts above yours: It is lighter

You might not have fully read my post. According to the spec sheet it's lighter but Leica's specs can be wildly off, or they measure the weight differently from the older lens. I can bet it will be heavier. The new close focus 50mm 'Lux weight is actually 45g heavier than the old but by the spec sheet it said it was 2g heavier. See:

True. But this lens is not of the new variety, it is a re-edition, hence me not including it.

Point taken, also this lens is now in the standard portfolio and not a unicorn (..) like the Silver 28/1.4.

Back on topic, a Silver version of the new 2.0 would definitely pique my interest as I’ve decided last year I will only buy silver Leica lenses.

Generally, I am very interested in the 28mm cron also due to the 40mm close focus feature (all other lenses are exceeding my budget and I have a 35mm Lux FLE already). But, I am trying to understand how the framelines look on the M11. If I use the lever to simulate the different framelines, I do believe the 35mm are the widest. If you mount the 28 will there be framelines you cannot see without the 28mm mounted? Or is it basically then the whole viewfinder that frames a 28mm picture?

The M11 has 28mm framelines.

The 30 or so years no wide angle M lenses in silver were produced was just devastatingly long

To the best of my knowledge, Leica DID make silver chrome wide angle lenses until not that long ago. For example, the Elmarit-M 2.8/21 and 2.8/24mm as well as the Summicron-M 2/35asph were available in silver chrome on brass for a long time, and the Summilux-M 1.4/35asph, too.. I am not sure about the 28mm Summicron though (I think there was a limited edition at some point).

Ok, then these seem not to be simulated via the lever, correct? Because when I use it, it only goes down to the 35mm framelines pair...

If you push the lever all the way to the lens the 28mm framelines will be displayed. If you wear glasses you might have a hard time seeing them.

They certainly do show on my M11 when pushing the lever all the way towards the lens/mount.

Does your camera display the 90mm framelines? If so, the 28mm framelines will be displayed at the very same setting. All framelines are displayed in pairs, namely 28/90, 35/135 and 50/75. You should be able to select all frameline pairs with the frameline selector lever.

That said, there has been the odd lens around fitted with a wrong lens flange. For example, if a 28mm lens is fitted with a 35mm lens flange, it will bring up the 35/135 frameline pair instead of the correct 28/90 pair. This is very uncommon though.

The problem seems to be that his camera's frame selector lever isn't bringing up the 28 frame-lines... no 28mm lens attached.

That's why I had asked about the 90mm framelines. If those show up, the 28mm framelines should show up, too, with or without a 28mm lens attached.

Apologies... I must have read or interpreted something different in your post that I no longer can identify. 🤦🏻‍♂️

There are 28mm frame lines but they are so wide that they may be impossible to see with glasses on. Even without glasses, I have to push my eye very close to the viewfinder and physically look up/down/side-to-side to see the framing at the edges. I don't do this in practice, I just assume the entire view is the 28mm image, which works out well. For exact framing with a 28mm lens, best to reference the LCD.
