I have been unable to apply the updated firmware. When I get to the screen "Firmware Update" it is greyed out and inoperable. At first I thought I had not copied the firmware to the root of the card, but I had.

Any suggestions? (I can try with the Fotos app I guess but I don't have it yet) I'm currently on v.1.6.1.

Try:

- Format card in camera

- Copy firmware onto card again

- Make next steps very slowly and give the camera time: Intern card, turn camera on and wait a few seconds, go into menu and select update

I had that sometime and eventually I was successful.

I was just testing new feature that will close shutter when you swap lenses. Sounds good, did what it says, then I rotate the camera to take a look at the curtain, out of nowhere it opened and close again. Curios what sensor they are using to detect lens off state.

And my god, autoiso shutter speed are still out of sync, setting it to 1/500 gives 1/640, 1/1000 sets it to 1/1250 etc. My OCD is sooo not happy,

Or make it via fotos app wirelessly ..

Spent way too long pairing the camera to the Fotos app, the whole experience is a nightmare. Anyway, it's finally talking to the app sometimes but now the firmware update prompt doesn't show in the app, where is the firmware update in the app hiding, I can't find it anywhere. Camera is on previous firmware still, app is latest.

EDIT: Restarted everything and it finally popped up again. Honestly, Leica stuff (software/firmware) is so flaky it's really infuriating (and a waste of my time). They pride themselves on engineering but I don't think they realise software engineering is a thing and just as important for a top tier experience. Somewhere along the line they got stuck in the past too much and need to realise that software/firmware is just as important as the hardware.

EDIT 2: Failing to connect to update the firmware, third attempt now.... yawn.

EDIT 3: It finally updated but now won't connect to the app. The app just says the camera needs to be in eco or performance mode, I've tried both but it comes up with that same message every time. What a joke but at least it's updated. I still need to be able to download the photos but can't handle any more of this tonight, maybe I'll try again tomorrow and resist throwing it out of the window in to the road.

The lens coding sensors are used for this.  You might try this : unmount a lens => the shutter will close => cover the coding sensors with you finger => the shutter will open.

Problem here is that if you mount something (like a not 100% compatible ltm adapter) that not fully covers the sensors, you can‘t take pictures anymore.

The Fotos app is asking me to enable WiFi password protection. For the life of my I can’t see that in the menus and the “how to enable…” button does nothing.
any clues?

unpaired camera from phone. Won’t connect now. Phone sees m11 but fails to connect.

ok. Removed camera from Bluetooth and WiFi in iOS and all good.

Very nice!

This was an significant update.

Completed the M11 and the M11M via the Fotos app. Piece of cake! Easy as pie!

Man, better get lunch....

Many thanks, Leica!

And many thanks to beta testers!

Taking some risk here updating my M11 and M11M at the same time... crossing fingers... 😮

Thank you to all who offered advice. I simply couldn't get the update to install using the memory card despite trying several different ones so I took the FOTOS route and (eventually) was successful.

Is this a new feature in 2.0.1?

The custom function buttons can now be programmed with a "Centre Frame" option that resets the LV cursor back to centre screen.

As far as I know this is a new feature and by far my favorite one (along with any fixes for crashing). Thanks for sharing it. I had no idea this was there.

Fixed a bug with bracketed shooting where the spread would do 1/3 -> 2/3 -> 1 -> 2 -> 3, the issue being, skipping 1/3 increments after going past 1 stop.  Now steps 1/3 increments throughout the range (as it should).

A new bug - the Time Setting menu option is labeled as "Date Setting".  Ooops.  Doesn't affect anything, just mislabeled.

Don't thank too quick. Wait until your next freeze.

Yeah, auto iso shutter speed function is one of the first things I checked after updating the camera.  Very annoying that this isn't fixed.

But forcing a closed shutter on *guessed lens removal was somehow a priority for Leica, so much so that it makes the camera functionally limited with lenses or adapters with black or dark mount surfaces. The sensor in the mount guesses when a lens is connected based on reflective data from whatever is attached to the camera. White, or lighter objects allow shutter to open like a chrome lens mount, a finger, or a bright light source.

Yes, I have had the shutter open and close with no lens attached using a bright light in proximity to the camera. It would be nice to allow this feature to be enabled/disabled in a menu. Not forced on us. How hard is it to switch a camera off and on again!

One redeeming factor is that the camera can still take a picture with the shutter in the closed position.

Yes and no.  My experience with an LTM adapter that doesn't fully cover the lens detection sensor has been inconsistent. At times, I can capture an image, while other times, the camera shoots with the shutter not opening at all. This leads to an inconvenient delay, akin to snapping a photo with the lens cap still attached.  Why on earth does the software allow taking a picture with the shutter closed?  Is this also to "protect" the sensor?  A simpler implementation would have been to disable the shutter button when the shutter itself is disabled by the software.

It would indeed be beneficial to have an option to toggle this feature on or off. I'm skeptical about its necessity, especially when considering that cameras like an SL2 allow lens removal with the shutter open even powered off. If the users want to "protect" the sensor by closing the shutter before dismounting the lens, he only has to power down the M.  Simple.  I'm not fond of (poorly implemented) software features that appear to take the "thinking" over from the user.

Did I thank too quick?

I haven't had a freeze since the pervious firmware update. Not one. Not in either camera. Prior to the previous firmware release, I experienced one (1) freeze, with the M11, and it cleared with a battery pull. It happened when I switched on the camera and then hit PLAY while the red light was still on.

So I made a new habit of not doing that, of waiting till the red light was off before inputting commands.

I understand that folks are concerned about freezes. My M10M froze the most of any of my Leicas: two or three times, when I first got it. Those all occurred amidst me hurrying the input of commands as well. Did my firmware updates. Modified my practices. No subsequent freezes. Why should I pile on Leica? They appears to be doing their part, through continuing development effort. For that, I thank them.

Look. Pick a make of camera, virtually any make. Then, type that make into Google followed by the word 'freezes'.

Revealing.

Think I'll take pictures instead...

In don't know why the camera allows an image to be taken when the lens is detected as "off".

Lenses or adapters that are black or dark, like the new black paint CV 28/2.8 skopar or CV 40/2.8 Heliar, will cause the camera to close the shutter with the lens attached. One would need to code the lens with white markers to get normal functionality back, whereas previously the camera just kept on ticking with the No Lens warning.

I think the shutter closing is practical to reduce dust ingress directly onto the sensor on a lens change. However, switching the camera off and ball on isn't hard to remember in order to reduce exposing the sensor to the environment.

Finally, after the update my M11 charges directly via USB C. I felt it was potentially a s/w issue. Leica wanted to return my camera, I’m pleased my instincts were correct and I held off and waited for the next firmware release.
