I only own prime SL lenses, so wonder if set to MF and you half press the shutter do the zooms also show focus point and near and far focus points at all zoom settings?

Referring to Leica Miami video at 20:00-25:50. Maybe I missed something.

Yes you also get this data with the SL zooms

Anyone photograph people with this lens yet? I do event work in tight spaces and I am considering this lens instead of the 28mm to go alongside my 75mm SL for event work. Wondering how it does rendering faces in terms of distortion.

I have a large technical event coming up in mid December.  Lots of faces and interesting gadgets to show off.  I'll use it then.

And I have been putting up shots in the main SL2 image forum, but mostly outside where the colors are strong at the moment.

My US dealer had my new SL 21 arrive on his desk today… it was built 4 days ago based on the numbers on the outer box.  I’ll have it tomorrow.  Looking forward to using it a lot.  I was number one on his list.  Not sure if other US photographers have gotten one yet…

I find it curious that on releasing the 21/2, Leica didn’t stockpile more of them first, and are now essentially shipping them individually as they come off the assembly line. Or maybe they just underestimated the demand.

Enjoy your new lens this weekend and looking forward to your impressions.

The first batch goes to pre-orders from dealers. That's why they disappear almost immediately: they've been reserved by customers. The next batch goes to customers who put down a deposit after the first batch was sold. This goes on for a few months until the waiting list is gone and stores can keep stock.

Leica could wait longer and build more, but it's always a compromise. There's a running joke on Photo Rumors about companies that launch new gear and immediately announce that they can't deliver "due to unprecedented demand." At least Leica gives you a fair chance of getting new gear on launch day, provided that you pre-order from your dealer.

Will carry for most of my work

21,35,75, 90-280

or

28,50,90, 200 f2

with occasional 400 f4 use with extender.

I will likely leave the 21 and swap it out for the canon 17 and 24 Tilt shifts when I am focused primarily on architectural or interior jobs.  I do not like to correct for architecture after the fact.  I don’t find the in-camera frame estimators in the Leica cameras helpful.

I see the 21 used for wide landscape, Astro, and people oriented images

I’d add an SL 135 f2 and 180 f2 if Leica will make those.

while I like the 24-90 also, it is my last place lens relegated to occasional event type work where I have to swap very quickly or carry very little.

both of my sets of three f2 primes above are my workhorses I grab one set or the other based on what my main focus will be.

Fixed it for you.

had one paid for and first on the list at a Leica dealer since January.  I was not in the first batch.

Got mine yesterday from FedEx.  I’m a fan of the 28 and 35 hoods.  This one for the 21 is round.  So it takes up less room in the bags… but I still like leica’s unique squarish hoods.  Leica’s hoods are way easier to attach for shooting or storage than hassy’s new V lenses… those are a bit too tight and particular.

I'm headed out for a week of projects.  Brought the 21,35, and 75 to keep it a bit simpler and lighter on the gear.

will post some examples with the 21 soon.

I like the square hood of 28/35, too.

The round 21 hood looks cheap, though covenient for storage.

I could use a little help here. I received my 21/2 APO late this afternoon and took a couple test shots before it got too dark. Going through some of the files, several jumped out at me. I'm seeing what looks like excessive green/magenta colour fringing in the sail boat rigging in this example. It is observable noticeable at 100% magnification from the original DNG fie and very obvious at 200%.  First is the full size image, the second is a cropped section for illustration. Of course, these are reduced jpegs but the effect should be clearly visible.  I have taken pictures of this these boats at different times using a number of different lenses  and have not observed this, or at least not to this extent.

High winds and heavy rains are expected the next couple of days making it difficult to do further outdoor tests, but i plan on doing a side by side comparison with the sigma 20/2 once conditions permit. I have seem some mild magenta fringing with the Sigma but not like this.
