Electronic Release History

Hi, I'm doing a bit of research on the history of when Leica introduced electronic remote releases on their digital cameras.

Does any know what were the very last Leica cameras that had a traditional threaded shutter release button, but also lacked any means of connecting an electronic remote release?

Thanks!

All Leica M-system cameras still have a traditional threaded mechanical-remote release port in the shutter button (except maybe some prototypes or "stylized" special editions).

Technically, that is an electronic release - the shutter button closes contacts inside, to fire the camera, rather than release springs and gears to move, as in the film cameras.

I believe cameras since the M (typ 240) -  when live-view and add-on EVFs were introduced - allow remote release via the FOTOS smartphone app. And have ways to remote view/trigger the camera via a tether to a laptop. The typ 240 was introduced in Sept. 2012.

That would make the M-E (typ 220 - based on M9) and/or M Monochrom v.1 the last digital cameras made without electronic remote release capability.
