While we all were pretty certain M stands for Messsucher (yes, written with 3x s if you do not use ß), Leica in a surprise historic move redefined the meaning of their "M".
Today, on their instagram reel, the question "What does M mean in Leica M" is clearly, evidently and distinctly answered: "M is M."

I guess this is to say "Bye-Bye" after 70 years to the Messsucher. This means that LEICA consideres now that the time of the the Masterpiece "Messsucher" in the M cameras is over and the classic M, film or digital, will be starting 2024 equiped with an EVF. Maybe that the M11 is the last one. Every ~6 years a new generation.

Whatever the surprise will be for this anniversairy "70 years of Leica M" (and M-Mount!), I am excited to see what will be my birthday gift for my 70 years in 2024,... Born with Leica M3 and KODAK Tri-X. ;-)

Bit of a technical challenge on film cameras!

There will be a hybrid version based on the R series.  Instead of a mirror in front of the film, there will be a digital sensor providing the feed to the EVF.  Press the shutter button & the sensor briefly flips up as the exposure is made...

You read about it here first!
