They put them on a roadmap, which is different. I suspect that the 21 will be officially announced when the next SL is announced. Isn’t that essentially the same thing? If you put out a road map showing a very specific lens design and an expected date of release, isn’t that making an announcement of intention?  It is a little different than what Panasonic did with their latest roadmap which has a smeary spot suggesting a lens of a certain type and with no dates included. The Leica roadmap is very specific. Edited September 29, 2023 by Virob

One is a statement of intention, and the other is a statement of availability. Leica intended to release a 24 by now, but it isn't available yet. I'm sure that future roadmaps (if any) will include a disclaimer in large type!
Simone_DF Posted September 29, 2023 Share #43  Posted September 29, 2023 No matter how you spin it, it’s really, really bad marketing to announce something and then don’t deliver it for 5 years. See also Wikipedia. 1
PeterGA Posted September 30, 2023 Share #44 Â Posted September 30, 2023 (edited) 24mm on the 24-90 works a treat - for a lighter combo I prefer the 24Elmarit M - had to search for quite a while to find one in mint condition and it cost me as much as my bought new 21mm M. I don't really care hat people say re Leica's current view on 24 as a prime or people saying the 24mm isnt a popular focal length - my favourite focal length when I was shooting a lot with a HasselbladX2D was the 30mm - the 24 allows for a perfect and less distorted wide capture than the 21mm focal length - with everything in focus from 2m-to wherever at F8. Â 24mm is a brilliant focal length if you want to get close for candids - on the M or the SL2. Oh, and (of course) the only knock on 24 -90 on the zoom is the carry-around weight tax - the 24-90 is such an under rated lens. jrp Posted September 30, 2023 Share #45  Posted September 30, 2023 Thing is … Leica is a fairly small company. It may well spend its marginal resources on cinematic lenses, for all we know. For whatever reason, they have decided that these wide angle SL lenses are not a priority, which is a pity…

Virob Posted October 9, 2023 Share #47 Â Posted October 9, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) lFI just posted a delay in publishing edition 7/2023 until Oct 30/2023 due to an embargo on a postponed product release. Any chance this could be the 21/2 APO?

jrp Posted October 27, 2023 Share #56  Posted October 27, 2023 Well, looking just at the MTF curves ,the 35mm and 50mm are a cut above the 28mm and the 21mm, at least at the edges, but the latter should be slightly better than the 28mm (which is a lens that I didn’t expect to perform as well at the edges as it actually seems to in the real world).  Anyway, I managed to get a 21mm from Leica at slightly less than the dealers will be selling them at but I want to test more than the weather proofing, which may not be feasible anytime soon.
