Leica Q3: New folder after how many photos

I have a question,  Maybe someone can explain the logic… the first folder L100 was filled with 1365 photos (number)

The folder L101 was filled until number L1011011, the folder L102 was filled until L1021012

My manual describes that every folder will be filled until 9999 photos, so for example that will be L1019999 so that would have been over 8000 more in that specific folder…

Is there something that could be the reason for changing to another folder? It happens in the middle of the day, in the middle of ‘a shooting session’ (two photos taken directly after each-other)

Is it a bug? Or is it logic? Thanks in advance :)

I can not answer to your question but I would like to sugest something:

This numbering of your shots on the card is of no importance to you. Maybe you use Lightroom. When you import into lightroom you might anyway change the names of all your imported shots to your own logic. So since I shoot with different Leica cameras (or other brands like Canon) I was never even aware of how the camera assignes names on the storage cards. The camera has to do something in order to avoid duplicates. And even when you do NOT change the names while importing then you will not see the folders in Lightroom anymore.

Maybe I missed your point fully. And maybe you do not use Lightroom . . .

Thank you for your answer. I do use LR but do not change the names while importing them. A good suggestion! Will have to find out if it works on my iPad too, cause I import (in LR mobile) while traveling :)

It is not a real issue, but was curious if I did something (wrong) to make it happen….and don’t really understand the logic behind it…
