My copy takes forever to turn on, specifically if I don't use it for a while. Feels like an old motorcycle, while I'm shooting and
"engine is warm" it powers up much quicker (still slow compared to other brands) but when I don't use it for a few hours or a day+ it takes a few seconds, extremely annoying.

Haven't had any power off issues, no issues at all actually other than the slow power on dilemma.

Hoping it's a firmware issue.

much slower than any fuji I;'ve used

Not kidding at all, I’m a big Fuji guy and this slow turn on situation is making me want to go back to Fuji. Even the M11 is much quicker.

The Q3 stays on while I'm using it, so for me a 4 second delay at startup is no big deal.

Is Q3's startup time really 4 seconds? I read that it is more like one to two seconds, similar to M11.

Initial startup after about 12 hours is about 3 seconds +/-  1/2s.  If it is turned off then turned back on within a few minutes or sometimes, even an hour, it starts up in a little over a second.  I can't explain that behavior but if Leica can improve on it, it would be welcome.   It is not a problem for me.  Since I am aware of it, I can easily accommodate.

That aligns with my experience as well.

My best guess is that it’s related to power savings. The camera is never totally ‘off’, even if you turn it off. Even if you pull the battery out, there’s still a back-up battery inside it keep some things going. There are always things running in the background, even if it’s just a clock to keep time.

Panasonic did some changes to the S5II that made it take longer to start up after a longer period of being ‘off’. At least according to Panasonic, they mentioned specifically that it was to reduce background power consumption when the camera was off for an extended period. There are different levels of ‘off’ so if the camera is not used for a while, it will shut down more electronics so that the battery doesn’t drain so quickly while the camera is in storage. This does however mean that the camera takes a little longer to boot up when you turn ‘on’ the camera.

If you’re worried about nanoseconds to get your shot and missing it because of a slow start up from “cold” the answer should be obvious.

Turn it on, leave it on, carry a spare battery.

Sorted.

Seriously, unless you are waiting 4-5 seconds, your concerns are pretty poor. I don't think its any different to other cameras.

Yes, good bloody god…people complain about the most trivial things these days!

That’s explaining a lot about the mysterious 3-4 seconds startups for some and the 1-2 seconds for others.
Thanks for the insights.

3-4 second’s start up is a nightmare. Way too long. Decisive moment is long gone.
Q3 should be turned ON most of the time. It can be a challenge for long shooting sessions without access to power.
So spare batteries and portable USB-C power bank are a must have for Q3

Anyway start-up time for any camera should be instant or at least under 0.5 second. Just the time to flip the switch and bring the camera to the eye.
1 sec is ok.
2 sec is a nuisance.
3 sec is unbearable.
4 sec is a failure.

Startup delay fixed by new firmware update. Nothing to complain about on that front now - appears to be as fast turning on as any other modern camera.

Hey, OldMan,

As I asked in another thread and now, here, did you leave the Q3 off for an extended length of time before turning it back on?  As I mentioned in an earlier post, turning on the cam after it had been off for a short while was almost instantaneous.  Even if it turned on fairly quickly immediately after the FW update I would still be curious its behavior when not started up for a day.  As I said in the other thread, I wait to update FW until it has been out for a couple of weeks.
