To enable LPC manually, click the "Guided" button in the Transform panel. Note that you can apply LPC even if you have not selected it in the camera.

To enable LPC automatically at import (only if enabled in the camera), go to Preferences>Presets>Raw Defaults>Global>Camera Settings (instead of Adobe Default).

I hope this helps.

This also works for Photoshop - make the changes in the Camera Raw settings in preferences

Yes. Currently, for Q3, it only works in ACR. Lightroom support is still pending.

I suspect the answer is no, but does anyone know if it is possible to apply perpective control to a raw file directly in-camera? (not just adding metadata to the file, but actually altering the picture to correct perspective in-camera)

The reason I am asking is that I use Apple Photo rather than Adobe products, and as far as I know only Adobe software can recognise Leica's perspective metadata).

Or as an alternative, would anyone know a pho editor on iOS/macOS which can access the photo library and would support perpective control metadata?

what do you mean by that? every iOS app can access the photo library as long as you give it permission to do so. It's different in macOS as all your images in the Photos.app are somewhere hidden hence why it's not really a good program to use for photo editing and organizing (imho). Perspective control only works with Adobe products currently (AFAIK). Lightroom for iPadOS should support the future but I don't use that either. Don't know about the iOS version.

I mean an App like Photomator will show your whole iCloud Photo Library (on macOS iPadOS, or iOS), can open any picture (including RAWs), edit the picture, and sync the edits back to the cloud photo library (not as a new copy of the picture, but as a non-destructive edit of the existing picture).

If afterwards you open Apple's Photos App, the edits from Photomator will be reflected there as well (and synced across macOS, iPadOS, and iOS).

So if it did support perspective control that would work for me. But it doesn't.

a possible workaround would be to use lightroom to edit the raw files and export the jpgs to the camera roll so that you'd have those in the photos.app? I don't know why you would want the dngs in your cloud to take up unnecessary storage that you pay for?

I too avoid adobe and use photos app, Photomator and Raw Power and it is frustrating 😬

Thanks.

The volume of photos I am shooting isn't too large (plus I shoot in medium size) and I have a large enough cloud storage, so I am happy to keep all the originals in the cloud with non-destructive edits applied, knowing that I can easy edit and view of my whole library across all devices (Mac, iPhone, and iPad) and I don't have to bother with any separate archive.

Usually I transfer the picture and do initial processing on the go with my iPad. If I was to introduce Lightroom in my workflow, it would be to completely migrate away from iCloud Photo Library and move to the Adobe cloud platform instead I guess. But ideally I'd rather stick to iCloud.

Use JPGs

But then you have to accept to use in-camera processing and the lack of RAW data for optimal post processing (in terms of highlights/shadows recovery and so-on).

What I would like to have is automated perspective control based on the camera metadata, combined with the ability to work with the RAW file when it comes other adjustments (Adobe does this, but unfortunately no other software does, hence why applying perspective control to the RAW file would be an acceptable compromise for me).

You should contact the appropriate application support and ask them to add support, as the data is freely available in the DNG. Do those applications support the digital crop, i.e, do they apply the crop of a digital zoom? That is also something that is stored in the DNG.

What‘s wrong with learning to hold the camera horizontal? It’s not difficult, and the Q3 has guides to assist you.

😃

David

How do you learn to hold the camera horizontally if you do not have any visual references? LPC is also about properly correcting the tilt, which is often necessary to fit the subject in the frame.

If there are no visual references, there is nothing for the camera to work on either!

If a tilted subject barely fits in the frame, after correction the edge parts will be cropped anyway.

Either get the framing right before pressing the button, or make usre there is plenty of unneeded margin that can be cropped away.

The camera uses tilt and roll sensors to store the angles in the DNG. This is similar to using a virtual horizon in the EVF.

With LPC, you will see what will be cropped.

Have you tried using it?

I’ve done that with Photomator a few months ago, but unfortunately not much traction from them. So sadly I wouldn’t hold my breath on that front 😕

I’d definitely like for other people do do the same thing and try to grab their attention though 🙂
