This morning, I dropped my M10. It fell out of my hands and onto the kitchen floor, bouncing twice. (!) Physically, on the outside, it looks fine. The shutter works, the menu works, etc. But every picture I take is either all black or all green. The Live View display also flickers with a greenish color. I've reset the camera, swapped out the battery and SD card, etc., and the problem remains.

I'm going to send it to Leica NJ for repair. In the meantime, I'm curious if anyone else has seen this green screen of death. If you have—what was the problem, and how much did it cost to fix?

It's got to be some kind of internal damage—the problem isn't with the screen, but something else. Fingers crossed....

I do find myself wondering if a half case might have helped.

In the absence of the M10, I'm shooting with my MP, and I don't think I've ever held on to a camera so carefully!

A half case does offer some protection. Although I've never dropped a camera (and used Leica since 1968), I keep all in half cases now. For my M10 I have one with a magnetic flap on the bottom that gives access to the battery and SD - leaving the Leica bottom plate back stored back home.

The M3 was pretty drop-proof. In the '60s-'70s I read of a skydiver who dropped his M3 when his chute opened. He found it in a grassy field, scraped the mud off and took another picture. During service, Leitz found the glass pressure plate had cracked, but it was still functional.

Ah, the Green Screen Of Death. I empathize. Mine had worse damage, being totally unable to take a picture of anything. A thin neoprene wrap prevented exterior damage, but, there was internal damage. I personally delivered the camera to the repair facility, and honestly admitted what happened. A few weeks or months later, the camera was delivered to our home. No charge; not even for shipping. The warranty was still in effect, and, apparently, someone decided to allow the warranty to cover the damage.

Edited to add: Normally, I am somewhat religious about using the strap, but, because there was a neoprene wrap around the camera, the strap was also enclosed within the wrap. Lesson learned. Harsh lesson.

The M10 is mechanically very robust, but sometimes you are unlucky have some real damage. I usually don't drop cameras, but have managed to drop my M10 twice on concrete/stone since I bought it in 2018. Both times because the strap caught on to something. Luckily no real damage to the camera, only dents on the plastic lens shade of the 35 cron asph.

I tripped while holding my young son and having my M10-P slung around my shoulder. I managed to cradle my son's head so he was not injured. I, however, landed on my BRICK, sorry, my M10-P. More specifically, I landed ribs first on my camera. That was one year ago. Nothing is wrong with the camera except 2 small gashes (one shown here). The camera is an amazing and tough tool.

I had the same with my M10. It falls just one foot on the floor and the green screen was there. I live in Germany and the M10 is now in repair since 10 weeks. It is still not there. The costs: 1250€

My Fujifilm GFX gets a complete new shutter and cleaning in 4 days for 400€

Well, Leica UK charges GBP 500 for labour to replace the film advance lever on an M6.  Something that takes maybe 2 minutes.

What kind of English dialect is that? I understand nearly everything (I‘m from Germany) - but it sounds strange.

Is it literally just for the replacement lever? Like other top end products they may only do the repair as part of a CLA , partially to avoid any 'afters' ("...It didn't do that before...")

Just to replace the lever.  Two minute job.

Do we see any paperwork (quote)  to support this?. There are of course independant repairs, so second question is - What's your point?

Because a guy posts a video on YouTube, it doesn't mean it's true.

What’s my point?  Agreeing with the OP who pointed out repairing his Fuji was a fraction of the cost and the time that repairing his Leica takes.

Not believing the guy who posted that video?  Totally believable to me, seeing my recent experiences with Leica.  But if you want you can ask him yourself.  Or just say you don’t believe it, it’s made up etc.  whatever makes you feel better.
