Due Tuesday but arrived in reading depot at 6:15am today, maybe they will want to get it to me early..

Nice one Dan. I preordered mine from Clifton Cameras on Thursday evening. Based on your shipping date, I’m hoping U.K. retailers will receive stock on Tuesday next week so hoping I get mine by end of the week at the latest.

I hear you. My issue with BH is that now they charge the card right away (it used to be only when it shipped) and I don’t feel comfortable being charged there and then thinking Leica might arrive first l, plus I wanted to come pick it up in the store since I’m ten minutes away from the Leica store in Miami. Anyhow, I think I made a mistake not pre ordering from BH at 9am as well.

Assuming you're in the US, B&H pre-authorizes the card. The charge is just a pending charge. Now it will impact any available balance you have, so perhaps that's the issue you're mentioning here.. but you don't actually pay for it until the item is shipped. If you happen to be outside of the US, then yes, I believe they do process the full charge right away, regardless of pre-order / backorder / etc.. status.

It’s really irresponsible for people to order from multiple places. All this does it delay shipments for everyone.. Also those cameras that are sent back are now returns and don’t go back into stock.

B&H will charge you the full amount (not a pre auth) if you use any type of mobile wallet like Apple Pay or PayPal. It's documented somewhere on their site.

People order from multiple places to be the first kid on the block with a new toy and enjoy the bragging rights that go with that.

As soon as they have a confirmed delivery they cancel the other orders and drop off the other waiting lists, bumping everyone else up the list by one.

Not many people actual take physical delivery of multiple copies of a new camera and then return them.

Aside from the fact that this is the definition of a first world issue (😉), given the lack of information given to consumers by Leica and stockists about initial inventory levels, their place on the preorder list, and whether or not pre-release waiting lists exist (this appears to be a mystery to me at least), it seems that putting blame on the consumer for placing multiple pre-orders is misplaced. Just my two cents.

Since most places ship the same day they get the item and it’s shipping overnight, most people don’t have a chance to cancel the order. It’s really stupid and makes zero. It’s people like this that delay everyone getting their cameras as soon as possible. It also gives Leica false information about how many are sold and how many people are waiting, further pushing back shipping dates for everyone. It’s the attitude that only I matter and no one else does.

First world issue of the need for instant gratification. Leica is not running a cooperative with shared ownership: it’s a business. As has been said before Leica controls supply, pricing and therefore demand. If you don’t like their terms, don’t buy from them. Or simply wait until supply has settled down.

You completely misunderstood my post. I’m not criticizing Leica or stockists (although what I said is true), I’m merely providing a rationale for why consumers double order. You may disagree with the rationale, but please don’t misreport what I said.

In real life this does not happen. D alerts seldom if ever get deliveries at the same time. Normally they will request payment before shipping. Nobody will be paying twice.

This is fake news. When you place order you have to enter payment information and they confirm with your credit card for the amount. When the order comes in from Leica to the store it’s boxed and shipped. You getting a shopping notification. Once the item is shipped you can’t cancel it. So yes in real life it happens.

If your idea were true, there would be no pre-order lists. No business will support a system that causes them to lose money systematically. Nor are there a large number of “demo” cameras available. Most dealers will take a deposit iand charge the balance before shipping. If not, more fool them. If they do charge the credit card and ship, there will be a restocking fee as a deterrent. So yes, it may happen occasionally but not often enough to be a realistic factor in general. Aside, over here one mostly gets a “packed and ready to ship” mail allowing the customer to abort the shipment. Or one can refuse the package at the door. Or divert it to a service point and not collect.

This is not true. Leica Miami did not request payment at preorder. Which makes me uneasy, I would’ve felt better if at least I paid for it and whenever it shows up it shows up, they’re doing some type of pre order list thing which sounds a bit chaotic and unorganized from my point of view, seems like it happens with every release. That’s how in the dark everybody is that even the Leica store is clueless about the product they sell or the pre order list they are making us get on. But then again, Leica has always been a mess with these these things as much as rushing faulty software with their cameras. Definitely their weakest point.

I do agree that I wish Leica handled things better (you'd think they would know how to after the Leica Q2 delays), but that's mainly because I'm greedy and really want a Leica Q3 in my hands heh (first world problems with instant gratification like others have said) . Because of that, I can't really say anything bad about those who've pre ordered in multiple places(whether those places accepted deposit or not) since I myself did or would've done the same. In the end, I just like hearing news and updates from others on their Leica Q3 orders just to gauge my chances or attempt at guessing the timeline since we don't know the rationale behind Leica's stock times (whether it's on purpose for branding, if they physically have limitations on production,  if they just don't want to overpromise and underdeliver, etc.). Really did wish Leica was more transparent as these Leica Q3 youtube vids that keep coming up are making me impatient lol

To add to that, Leica Soho https://leicastoresoho.com/leica-q3-black/ seems to take pre orders showing:

Coming Soon (26th Jun 2023). Pre-Order now!

It's showing no tax for me, but $80+ on shipping (to NJ, USA), so I'll pass on the pre order. Seems like a months wait though for some places at least.

My understanding from speaking to someone at Leica Miami is that when they get to your place on the wait list they give you a call/email. If you are still interested they take your payment and ship the camera. If you changed your mind or already received the camera from elsewhere they go to the next person on the list. I am not sure if they will let you know where you are on the list, or when their next shipment will arrive. From there part it seems systematic, and while not as fast as shipping as soon as they receive it, the method will cut down on shipping to people who are already getting the camera from elsewhere.

That's the way a number of dealers are doing it. I'm Leica Miami's list as they don't charge out of state taxes and have free shipping. I'm also on two local dealers list that just call you when it's your turn and take payment then. The Bellevue WA store suggested I get on the lists for LA and Boston if I want it quicker than them. It seems like it's a common practice.
